When he was a young engineer just starting out at the paper company, he went to some kind of a conference for pulp and paper engineers, along with his boss and I think his boss's boss, in Boston. One evening, they all went to a Chinese restaurant, which at the time (ca. 1975) was a thing that was basically unknown in this part of Maine. Not wishing to seem like a bumpkin, Dad ordered one of the Fancy Drinks out of the front of the menu.
He didn't know what any of them were, though, so he just picked the one he thought would make him seem the most sophisticated: the Scorpion Bowl.
He didn't notice the fine print after the name: "(for four)"
This did not manifestly help him maintain an air of sophistication.
