I'm not sure the drop-in points in the old game are random; in the Operation Slingshot opening mission (the one in the cemetery in Hong Kong) and the mission that introduces EXALT (the aftermath of the French military convoy shootout), the alien reinforcements always seem to drop into the same squares. I played both of them enough times to know where those spots were and have someone Overwatching them the round before, which was almost not sporting.
