The only barrier to just considering Kiara a phoenix is "why does she look like a human, then?", which isn't an insurmountable problem but not something that this context can just elide over. Hence the suggestion of spirit-kin: she's a firebird and a human at the same time, in much the same way that a certain member of Hōkago Tea Time is also a cat.

(Edited to put the macron over the right 'o', which is the left one.)
