"Satisfactory, very satisfactory"

   It's still in early access and just dropped on Steam yesterday, but I've been following it for a long while -- drooling the whole time. I just picked it up last night and after a couple hours with it I can say it scratches the itch wonderfully.

No plot that I can discover (or at best, the thinnest of tissue paper plots). it's just an alien world sandbox that you can plop heavy industrial buildings on and cover with conveyor belts. As one Youtuber put so eloquently: "Watch out, nature, here comes the delicate touch of humanity!"

(To be fair his entire schtick is breaking the games he reviews in the most hilarious ways possible, but Satisfactory does make it particularly entertaining.)

But yeah! Fun times.

One of the aforementioned 'tuber's vids, for reference purposes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2X3wlvoShg

   As a note to anyone trying it out: Don't look away when you build the space elevator.

   "It's like 3D Factorio" is probably the best summary of this game I've seen, although admittedly to get that you have to be familiar with Factorio. :)

   Since I made the first post here, I've sunk... 88 hours into the game, according to Steam. And I've enjoyed every minute of it.

Apropos of nothing, here is a list of observations I've made:

* Lizard doggos are cute! Also lizard doggos are dumb and like to fetch things for you. Lizard doggos are also immune to radiation. (You are not.)

* My god this game is pretty. So, so pretty.

* Alpha pigs suuuuck. But they can be convinced to yeet themselves off a cliff relatively easily. Fun!

* Space elevator. L-l-lewd!

* You need more room than you think you do. No, more than that.

* Multiplayer is buggy but fun as balls. My housemate has a knack for creating vomit comet hyperloop rides. I'm almost scared to think of what he's gonna do when we unlock the train.

* Persuant to the above: hyperloops require a catcher's mitt. Walls suffice. Jello is more entertaining.

* The difference between a safe water landing and driving your splintered shinbones up through your braincase is approximately half an inch.

* My god. THAT'S SO PRETTY. (Each of us -- three of us regularly play in this map -- has spouted that on multiple occassions.)

* There are spiders, and then there are OH GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT.

* I seem to have discovered a sort of obsession I wasn't aware I had and I swear, I SWEAR, if I find one more conveyor belt just vanishing into a hillside I'm going to use my trusty rebar gun on someone.

* Overclocking is a trap, don't fall into it. Okay, mostly it's a trap. Sometimes it's useful. Look, just do the math first!

* Oh hey, there's a calculator built into this thing! Neat!

* There's a GODDAMN FLASHLIGHT?!

* Nothing sounds so satisfying as the whump and whine of a coal generator firing up.

* Spitters happen. A lot.

* You dork. Crafting benches are cheap. JUST BUILD ONE WHERE YOU'RE STANDING, IDIOT. You don't have to run all the way back to base again. Remember to hoover it up when you're done.

* Friendly fire isn't.

   >Since I made the first post here, I've sunk... 88 hours into the game,

And you got me addicted, even if continental lag means I will likely keep to my own world besides occasional visits.

>* Lizard doggos are cute! Also lizard doggos are dumb and like to
>fetch things for you. Lizard doggos are also immune to radiation.
>(You are not.)

I accidentally rebared one (It got in front of a pig!). The game then said 'press e to pet doggo'. FUCKING OW GAME.

>* Alpha pigs suuuuck. But they can be convinced to yeet
>themselves off a cliff relatively easily. Fun!

If I hear a pig and can't see it, I automatically jump. This has saved my life, and yeeted several pigs now.

>* You need more room than you think you do. No, more than that.

Using yours as a guidline, I'm making plans to expand mine. A lot. SO MUCH.

>* Multiplayer is buggy but fun as balls. My housemate has a knack for
>creating vomit comet hyperloop rides. I'm almost scared to think of
>what he's gonna do when we unlock the train.

On the plus side, it makes it really easy for him to give tours when I visit.

>* Persuant to the above: hyperloops require a catcher's mitt. Walls
>suffice. Jello is more entertaining.

Like I said before, I want to be able to dye that stuff.

>* My god. THAT'S SO PRETTY. (Each of us -- three of us regularly
>play in this map -- has spouted that on multiple occassions.)

I'm pretty sure you've heard me the same thing pretty often.

>* There are spiders, and then there are OH GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT.

Those fucking things, I swear...

>* I seem to have discovered a sort of obsession I wasn't aware I had
>and I swear, I SWEAR, if I find one more conveyor belt just vanishing
>into a hillside I'm going to use my trusty rebar gun on someone.

So, I shouldn't stream my game for you to look at tomorrow?

>* Overclocking is a trap, don't fall into it. Okay, mostly it's a
>trap. Sometimes it's useful. Look, just do the math first!
>
>* Oh hey, there's a calculator built into this thing! Neat!

These two things are connected.

>* There's a GODDAMN FLASHLIGHT?!

You sounded so proud when you informed me of that...

>* Spitters happen. A lot.

Fucking Alpha Spitters.

>* You dork. Crafting benches are cheap. JUST BUILD ONE WHERE YOU'RE
>STANDING, IDIOT. You don't have to run all the way back to base
>again. Remember to hoover it up when you're done.

Why? I leave them there. Good landmarks, and they save time later when I go back to set up something there properly.

>* Friendly fire isn't.

   My factory spans... a very long distance.

I had trouble finding the little pond to pull water from so I schlepped to the biggest body of water that I could find and put down four water pumps and dragged pipes all the way back to my main base.

I have approximately 400 miles of spaghetti mess that I need to clean up as once you start, it's hard to stop putting everything willy nilly for progress.

Blade Runners are mandatory. Once you have them on, and die once, you will never want to be without them ever again.

Falling into a ravine with the poisonous plants is not recommended. Falling into a ravine with poisonous plants, WITHOUT building materials, is right out. Did it once, don't recommend it.

I agree with conveyor clipping. It drives me up the wall and I fix it whenever I see it. Usually when I am updating from V1 to V2 or V3 conveyors.

I'm tellin' you, we need to get some screenshots from the Stratorail line -- maybe that little waystation up above the crimson forest? -- and do them up as postcards or something.

   I am stuck in an infinite loop of trying to rescue my Stuff from an alpha pig. Sadly, it is in the middle of a valley, and I can't get it to yeet.

I have discovered that pigs, even Alpha Porkers, can't climb. So you can basically wall them in with 4m high foundation blocks and walls from a distant vantage point, then go collect your stuff and leave them to oink in pointless rage.

Or you can put a floor over them and build a factory on top out of spite.
