I think what I like best about this cold open is what has to be a deliberate homage to every high-stakes engine-room and/or "ship is about to explode" sequence ever filmed in any Star Trek series. Disheveled crewmember helped to their feet during a mad rush for the escape pods? Check. Dead engine core that has to be restarted? Check. Collapsing catwalk that comes down on top of our protagonist? Check. Warp Reflex core restart just when it has to happen? Check. Fade to black on what looks like an impending death right before either the opening credits or a commercial break? Check. Fun times. I think the only thing you missed was Gojira ultimately getting knocked out by the engineering console exploding in his face with a shower of sparks, followed by a worms-eye camera shot of him spinning around and hitting the deck. Presumably, this is because the Wayward Sun, unless various ships named Enterprise, understood the idea of fuses. -Merc Keep Rat |
