I mean, on one hand, I was expecting weirdness, having played OG and OG2 before. Glorious bunches of oddity and ham, they were.

But this is my first mainline Super Robot Wars game, and ... well, it's mashing the UC timeline, GaoGaiGar, Code Geass and a bunch of other things into a mess that somehow manages to make sense and make you laugh your ass off more often than not.

Case in point, for UC the timeline is after the Laplace Box incident. And my squad of well meaning mechjock murderhobos currently includes not only Pic Above, but also Amuro and Kamille ...

That's the norm for SRW. The games often do a better job telling the stories than the original material whether its due to lack of time (Char's Counterattack), bad writing (Cross Ange), or the director went off his meds half way through the production (Evangelion).

Because I looked at the price, and I think I'll wait until they offer a sale on it.

Meanwhile, influence goes both ways

My favorite plot moment so far is in little blurbs when you run combat animations. Fuu said something in the ballpark of "I will end nightmares that plagued my childhood with my own two hands"
And then you remember, that in the universe, ten years ago, in Previous Big War, there was previous Dr. Hell Uprising and that wasn't nice for anyone in Japan. And Fuu is 14 years old schoolgirl and mech pilot. Yeah...

Generally, the nods to Previous Big War are very interesting. We know that there was One Year War, Dr. Hell, Dinosaurs, Voltres Aliens, GaoGaiGar and something else mashed together, possibly Zeta too, and Amuro, Getter Team, Mazingers, Voltes, Braves and some other people who I don't remember right now were on Argama, flying around and smashing problems right in the face, and half of the younger cast of your current team was there, grew on their exploits and was inspired.
