Hammond has posted a video containing a few remarks to Drivetribe, where you will also find links to written takes by Clarkson and May on the accident.

And now, what with the fact that Hammond is going to be in better shape after than he was before(May's words), I can't help but think....you know, you just fubared an electrical one-of-a-kind concept car. Who's going to PAY for it, and HOW MUCH?

Well, keep in mind he was filming for The Grand Tour, not just messing around for his own amusement. The production has insurance, and I would guess lots of it, for precisely such developments.

Oh, I don't doubt it...but at the same time, I don't think Amazon REALLY considered that they'd be liable to replace a probably VERY fucking expensive car among the first things they did. I mean, the Beeb did that with the Koenigsegg that ate the wall of tires, but, well, it's the Beeb, it's a very high-income show, and it was well into the run of the show.

Amazon is very high on my list of organizations whose finances do not worry me. :)

It isn't the finances of Amazon that worries me. It's the, "You know, you cost us X in the very first series of this, and we're NEVER getting it back at this rate...we're pulling the plug." or something like.

And as a complete aside, re the earlier part about insurance...I wonder what the Hamster's like...

I have this mental image of his proof of insurance being a photocopy of a startled woodchuck at this point.

...this is a company that just dropped $13.7B on some grocery stores. I think they can spare an expensive car.

The question, I think, isn't whether or not AMAZON can afford it, but if the SHOW can. One may run the other, but they *are* still distinct things. The show gets a budget. If they go over that budget, the parent company is likely to start looking a mite closer at the bottom line.

That car might be coming out of their operating budget. At the least their insurance premiums almost *certainly* are.

Wilman's been doing this for a long time. I'm willing to assume he runs a production wherein these matters are taken into account in the planning stages. Hence all those "the unique way the BBC is funded" jokes back in the Top Gear days...
