If she hadn't already mastered the fine art of emotional blackmail by the time she ever encountered Akio, I would be very surprised... it's just that nowadays she's using her dark powers for good.
(That's probably a big part of why she's so annoyed at herself when we see her at Chet's in the beginning of issue #1. It's not so much that she got fired as how Guld arranged it. She's sitting there looking at the tablecloth and thinking, Motherfucker totally played you, homegirl. Amateur.)
Although, that said, she's certainly not above adding any enemy's better tricks to her own toolbox - as Baron von Hammer will probably learn if and when they next encounter each other... :)
