I want to shake the hand of the person who decided that the spirit of old school Excalibur needed to come back.

Because the mere concept of US Avengers aka American Intelligence Mechanics aka Avengers Idea Mechanics is GOLDEN.

It all started when Roberto da Costa bought the assets of AIM at a firesale and was awarded a contract from the US government to rehabilitate AIM technology for use by above board organizations.

You want to shake the hand of Al Ewing, the mind behind Loki: Agent of Asgard. This is honestly one of the best comics out there at the moment, with a lot more joy in it than I thought Marvel allowed these days. He's taken concepts Hickman made and neglected during his Avengers run and made something spectacular of it.

I mean, Hickman had Sunspot buy out AIM, then forget about it once he'd had it on the page for a moment. Ewing's had over thirty issues of adventures in weird science, action heroes, crazy spy hijinks and more, just from that one idea.

"High school."

(Roberto DaCosta, demonstrating that even without using his mutant powers, he's still got game.)

It is pure USDA certified cheese from top to bottom interspersed with moments of brilliant framing and narrative and I love it to death for it.

At the end of the day, though, when serious time comes, Al Ewing is utterly brilliant.

You guys are really inspiring me to want to poke my nose back into Marvel for the first time in over a decade. What title/issues should I look for for this?

The Mighty Thor appears to be coming to an end soon and I would suggest that as it's pretty self contained and explores a nice facet that you don't see in Marvel. All New Wolverine & Ms. Marvel are ones I enjoy. Invincible Squirrel Girl I hear is amazing but i'm having trouble with the art style at the moment.

I enjoy Champions, but it does have the problem of bringing some of the baggage from the other heroes' own series into it. While that's not normally a problem, the Incredibly Punchable Amadeus Cho (aka The Incredibly Awesome Hulk) does irritate me. He's even more of a dick than Young Cyclops, which is saying something. (Though the writer for Champions seems to think of poor Scott as just straight-laced and painfully uptight after Kamala demonstrated that she was a better leader for the group than he was.)

If you're looking for this specific set of stories, it's in The New Avengers and U.S. Avengers. Make sure you're getting the AIM version of The New Avengers; the title has been used before. At this point, you may just want to look at the TPBs if you can find them.

I wouldn't recommend poking your nose in to Marvel's current material without certain reservations, though - the Fresh Start reset hits in a month or so, and a lot of the fun stuff is getting canceled.
