That was typical of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. Tigh's decision was controversial because he sacrificed the men, when they might have been saved if he just waited. But Tigh couldn't be certain if they could wait that extra minute. So, it's a hard call, and one that didn't give a lot of time for weighing the pros and cons.

Sometimes, a commander must make a decision, any decision, and hope that it will turn out to be the right call. I'm sure Utena's been there, too. Her instincts usually serve her well, though.
