I dunno, I mean, it's a free continuum and all, but it seems a bit... silly. I mean, the only valid reason there's a "Rebuild" of the original is because of all the lovely, lovely money. Absent even that motivation, riffing on something that was a riff in the first place... it's like trying to win an argument with someone by breaking into his apartment years after he's moved out and yelling into an empty closet.
