Ah, the lever-action .30-30, my longgun of choice. Mine's a Marlin, but the theory's the same. I grew up hunting deer in swamp country with max visibility of about 15 yards; I didn't need long range accuracy. Dad had the military surplus Springfield .30-06, and he never took advantage of that range.
I chose the Marlin because: A. Lever actions were COOL to a kid who grew up reading Louis L'amour. Who wants a futzy old bolt-action? B. Who had money for a Winchester?! C. Dad had a moral objection to semiautos ("When you get buck fever and start rock-n-rolling, I don't wanna have to pay for the ammo!").
