In the wake of the above show and the response it got (both from the listening public and the other band involved), Yui wrote this song. Upon first reading the lyrics, Ritsu summarized them as, "Cocky, cocky, cocky, cocky, cocky," punctuating each word with a vigorous shake of her bandmate, whom she had by the lapels. But they recorded it anyway. :) (English lyrics from the K-On! wiki. No warranty is expressed or implied, etc.)
I tie my tie tight and now depart While my heart is tied tight, too A stage that's shown only to us Let's go gathering our power However many times I depart, it feels like the first time Deciding one song is exciting and tense But when we exchange looks, that easily Changes mystery into happinessWe bask in the spotlight, light from around the world We're just about gathered, always radiating Because we're not incomplete, our motto is fun Because we're serious That riff just now was cool, it felt pro Oh no, I'm already in high spirits Could it be that we're geniuses? Nobody says so, but we must be There aren't any flashy accessories Our sparkling sweat substitutes for jewels We don't have makeup either, just unpainted faces But to that extent, we're honest Our smiles in full bloom, people around the world If we can make them smile, it's amazing, touching Because we want to sing, the atmosphere is love and peace Because our dreams are huge This harmony is perfect, knack instead of pitch Oh no, I'm already nervous We don't sit down, our feet on the ground Making good use of the fluffiness, soaring, happy We encountered it, we found it The supreme bliss of playing, a sense of unity Before knowing it, we won't go back to being lucky So we're going to go forward, tea time is our energy Because we love everybody Extending the loop, an awesome outro, tension doesn't have a ceiling Then let's go, let's go more Come on, because we're not incomplete, our motto is fun Because we're serious That riff just now was cool, it felt pro Oh no, I'm already in high spirits Could it be that we're geniuses? Nobody says so, but it's true - Hōkago Tea Time "Genius... !?" Go! Go! Maniac! (2010) |

LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-14 AT 03:52 PM (EDT) Speaking of Bo Diddley riffs...
I walked forty-seven miles of barbed wire I have a cobra snake for a necktie I have a brand new house upon the roadside And it's made out of rattlesnake hide I have a brand new chimney, baby, built on top And it's made out of human skulls Come on, take a little walk with me, baby And tell me: Whom do you love? Whom do you love? Now, around the town, I use a rattlesnake whip Take it easy, baby, don't give me any lip Whom do you love? Whom do you love? I have a tombstone hand and a graveyard mind I'm just twenty-two and I don't mind dying Whom do you love? Yeah, whom do you love? Aw, whom do you love? Now, Juri took me by my hand She said, "Lonesome Kate, you don't understand" Whom do you love? The night was dark and the sky was blue Down the alley a house wagon flew It hit a bump and somebody screamed You should've heard just what I've seen Whom do you love? Whom do you love? Yeah, whom do you love? Aw, whom do you love? Yeah, I have a tombstone hand and a graveyard mind I'm just twenty-two, honey, I don't mind dying Snake-skin shoes, baby, put them on your feet We've got the good-time music with the Bo Diddley beat Yeah, whom do you love? Woo! Whom do you love? I walked forty-seven miles of barbed wire I have a cobra snake for a necktie I have brand new house upon the roadside And it's made out of rattlesnake hide I have a brand new chimney, mama, built on top And it's made out of human skulls Come on, take a little walk with me, child Tell me: Whom do you love? Yeah, whom do you love? Ooh, whom do you love? - The Art of Noise "Whom Do You Love? (Grammatically Correct Ver.)" It's Just as Easy to Get These Things Right EP (2408) George Thorogood & the Destroyers "Who Do You Love" Move It On Over (1978) |

>>Agreed. The only thing higher on the wish-I-could-see-this scale would >>be a credit for "backing vocals". > >On the Art's second live album, The Adventures of the Art of Noise >Across the Eighth Dimension, he has a credit as "assistant >guitarist", having operated Azalynn's wah pedal during an off-the-cuff >cover of "Theme from Shaft". and this is why i love this place. you just don't get this quality of show anywhere else these days... -Z --- Remember kids: guns make you stupid, duct tape makes you smart.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-25-14 AT 01:55 PM (EDT) >4. "Roll With the Changes" >REO Speedwagon >You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish (1978) NOTES: Listed as one of the "collaborative jam" tracks, but it's probably more accurate to say that it was performed by an "augmented" HTT (because it has two keyboard parts and, what the hell, we might as well add another guitarist). The four-part guitar solo is all one performance in the original, but it's clearly broken into four parts (they even overlap in ways that are frankly improbable for a single live guitarist, but then, the official YouTube version is a weird hybrid of a live performance and the studio recording anyway). Personnel: Kaitlyn Hutchins - Lead vocal, piano Yui Hirasawa - Guitar 1, backing vocal Azusa Nakano - Guitar 2 Azalynn dv'Ir Natashkan - Guitar 3 Tsumugi Kotobuki - Electric organ Mio Akiyama - Bass, backing vocal Ritsu Tainaka - Drums

>>> "Don't Say 'Lazy' (5nin Ver.)" >> >>This being the UF 'verse, I am not at all surprised to learn that >>there are actual ninja involved with the production of this >>track. > >Heh. All the "revised" versions of songs from before Azusa joined the >band, and which subsequently had her rhythm guitar part added to them, >are labeled that way on the K-On! soundtracks. I don't think >it actually has anything to do with ninja, but I suppose one never >knows. :) Upon reminding myself of actual Japanese grammer, I find it's pretty innocent. It's actually a standard Japanese expression. Japanese uses several different suffixes to add to numbers when counting numbers of things, to indicate what's being counted. 人 ('nin') is the counter-suffix for 'people'. So in 'normal' Japanese it would be written 五人, 'go-nin', '5-people'. But, well, UF, so ninja! -- Croaker RCW #mc2 "When in doubt, shoot something. Preferably the enemy." |

>So in 'normal' Japanese it would be written 五人, 'go-nin', >'5-people'. Someone involved with the song production for K-On! likes playing with numbers; there are several songs with Arabic numerals in the titles, and one of the recurring "insert" songs HTT plays on screen several times over the course of the series, "Gohan wa Okazu", contains an untranslatable pun based on the number 5. The chorus involves repeated chanting of the line, "Ichi, ni, san, shi, go-ha-n," which is basically "one, two, three, four, five-and-also-the-first-syllable-of-rice". :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Consider the title of "My-HiME", which is a four-way cross-language pun all by itself. -- Croaker RCW #mc2 "When in doubt, shoot something. Preferably the enemy." |

>'Cause when I think "whimsical, light-hearted wordplay," I think of >that show. :) "I thought this was going to be a cute schoolyard romance with lots of moe(j, 'cuteness')!" "Well, a lot of things did moeru...(j, 'to burn')" Actually, Mai-HiME and Mai-Otome both have the same kind of mood-whiplash thing going on that Arpeggio does - both of them do sixteen episodes of charming comedy, take a hard swerve into Deep Serious in episode 17 (although Otome preserves more comic relief moments), and the roll through that territory for a while before blasting their way to a triumphant heroes-victorious conclusion. ----- "V, did you do something foolish?" "Yes, and it was glorious." |
