"street art of Valhalla"

These decals are commonly found on lampposts, the backs of STOP signs, and such-like articles of street furniture around the Valhalla port district of New Yokosuka. Their source is unknown.

HAH! Are these recent additions to Valhalla (ie, after Corwin recruited his fleet) or have they been there a while? I also wonder how Naka died if the Fog ships were unkillable in the first war, but hey. =) Any addition to the Fleet of Fog is a good one.

If I recall right, the Fog Ships were not actually "unsinkable", so much as that it took such a ridiculous amount of firepower to take -one- down, and they rarely (if ever) operated alone. I'm guessing it was along the line of "lost a fleet, killed maybe two of the bastards".

I think the H2G2 entry mentions that a few were sunk here and there, but they just disintegrated; leaving nothing behind to study.

So there's more Fog ships elsewhere. Then again, I knew that didn't I? A bunch left Earth, which is basically how the first war ended. Cool.

Not street art as such, but the well-known sign of one of the New Yokosuka district's best-loved restaurants.

Meanwhile, the Crown Colonies have had a resurgence of these restaurants after belligerence towards them from Earthgov amounted to so much noise:-

if you didn't know, "red castle" in Japanese is "赤城"—Akagi.

Which may go some distance toward explaining why the signature menu item at Red Castle is a crate of 100 cheeseburgers, a bushel of fresh-cut French fries, and 55 gallons of Pepsi Black.

Sometimes I think UF is one of those settings where a group of reasonably with it thugs might have the conversation:

"Well, get him."
"There's only one of him and he looks unarmed, you get to find out."
"Find out what?"
"Why he isn't afraid of us."

In response to message #8

I had to build it in Illustrator because it doesn't exist in the font I was using, but "₢" is a genuine currency symbol with its own Unicode entity. It's for a unit of currency that is no longer in use, the Brazilian cruzeiro, which was replaced in 1994 by the real. In this context, of course, it stands for "credit" (in this case specifically the Earth Alliance convertible credit unit, though the same symbol is commonly used for the Bank of Salusia's Standard Galactic Credit).

Coolness. Incidentally, is this the first time the Credit in the UFverse has an actual symbol? Or is this something you've known for a while?

   >Coolness. Incidentally, is this the first time the Credit in the

I think it may be; generally in stories to date I've just written it "cr{number}", and I just dug up the cruzeiro symbol while researching this poster. I was originally going to use the Costa Rican colón symbol, ₡, which is used to represent the in-game faux "money" in Cities: Skylines, but I decided it was too similar to the cent sign (¢); while looking for an alternative I ran across ₢ and thought, "Well, OK, there you go." :)

Sadly, the Galactic Credit symbol from Star Wars: The Old Republic does not have its own Unicode entity; but then, as far as I know the Aurebesh alphabet isn't used in the UF universe anyway, unless it's part of some sort of "Galactic Esperanto"* attempt. Honorable mention in this department to the SimCity/Sims franchise, which uses the silcrow (the legal "section" symbol), §, to represent the in-game currency—naturally called "Simoleons".

I like the incredible arrogance it implies in the Earth Alliance that they tack desertion onto her list of crimes, when the closest she ever came to being in their service was a failed attempt to draft her.

Yeah, I noticed this too when the graphic first appeared, and was all about to comment on it, but then I realized, Earthgov has suffered from delusions of legitimacy for a long, long time now. And you phrased it better than I could think of at the time. =)

The hilarity, of course, is they don't even consider her a -sentient being- and yet are still willing to call her a deserter. Pathetic.

The wanted poster isn't for them. It's for all the self-interested souls out there looking to collect on a bounty, either through direct attempts to capture, or through giving information to Earthgov. They put "desertion" in the list of crimes because there are people out there who will drop a dime on deserters simply on the principle of the thing. It's propaganda.
