Meanwhile, the Crown Colonies have had a resurgence of these restaurants after belligerence towards them from Earthgov amounted to so much noise:- --- "She's old, she's lame, she's barren too, // "She's not worth feed or hay, // "But I'll give her this," - he blew smoke at me - // "She was something in her day." -- Garnet Rogers, Small Victory FiMFiction.net: we might accept blatant porn involving the cast of My Little Pony but as God is my witness we have standards. |

I had to build it in Illustrator because it doesn't exist in the font I was using, but "â‚¢" is a genuine currency symbol with its own Unicode entity. It's for a unit of currency that is no longer in use, the Brazilian cruzeiro, which was replaced in 1994 by the real. In this context, of course, it stands for "credit" (in this case specifically the Earth Alliance convertible credit unit, though the same symbol is commonly used for the Bank of Salusia's Standard Galactic Credit). --G. -><- Benjamin D. >Coolness. Incidentally, is this the first time the Credit in the >UFverse has an actual symbol?I think it may be; generally in stories to date I've just written it "cr{number}", and I just dug up the cruzeiro symbol while researching this poster. I was originally going to use the Costa Rican colón symbol, â‚¡, which is used to represent the in-game faux "money" in Cities: Skylines, but I decided it was too similar to the cent sign (¢); while looking for an alternative I ran across â‚¢ and thought, "Well, OK, there you go." :) Sadly, the Galactic Credit symbol from Star Wars: The Old Republic does not have its own Unicode entity; but then, as far as I know the Aurebesh alphabet isn't used in the UF universe anyway, unless it's part of some sort of "Galactic Esperanto"* attempt. Honorable mention in this department to the SimCity/Sims franchise, which uses the silcrow (the legal "section" symbol), §, to represent the in-game currency—naturally called "Simoleons". --G. * or Galactic Volapük, I suppose -><- Benjamin D. >I like the incredible arrogance it implies in the Earth Alliance that >they tack desertion onto her list of crimes, when the closest she ever >came to being in their service was a failed attempt to draft her. Yeah, I noticed this too when the graphic first appeared, and was all about to comment on it, but then I realized, Earthgov has suffered from delusions of legitimacy for a long, long time now. And you phrased it better than I could think of at the time. =) The hilarity, of course, is they don't even consider her a -sentient being- and yet are still willing to call her a deserter. Pathetic. ------ Fearless creatures, we all learn to fight the Reaper Can't defeat Her, so instead I'll have to be Her

LAST EDITED ON Aug-07-18 AT 08:41 PM (EDT) >>Hm. I still have that CafePress shop with the DSSMI gear. >>(Amazingly, it hasn't been shut down for lack of activity.) Want to >>see real T-shirts with this design? > >I didn't make a hi-rez version of it (and it looks like the text >encoding on one of the Japanese characters failed), so I may need to >tweak it a bit, but that would be OK with me. :) Life's a little crazy right now, but I'll grab the image (in lieu of any improvements you might offer later) and set up a few shirts when I get a chance. EDIT TO ADD: As it happened, I had the chance -- and CafePress is not cooperating. I'm getting a very unhelpful "an error occurred while creating your products" message whenever I try to save the shirts I defined. Until I can figure out what's going wrong, I won't be able to make good on my offer. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to check out what's there now, the store can be found here. There's 0% markup, everything's at cost and I make no money from this; hell, CafePress wouldn't know where to find me to give me money if I did somehow accidentally make some. -- Bob ------------------- My race is pacifist and does not believe in war. >OK, I'd have had to remake it entirely to go higher-rez, since I was >only thinking of the web when I originally made it, but I did make it >slightly larger and fix the Japanese text. Oh, cool. I'll update the store as soon as I get a chance. The resolution/size seems to be just fine, but I'll actually have to get a shirt just to be sure. I should mention that I did get the original image to work, but for some reason CafePress flagged it as a copyright violation a day or so later. It took me the best part of a week to convince them that it was an original artwork for which I had permission, and since then I've been needing to come back here and let folks know that the new products were available. -- Bob ------------------- My race is pacifist and does not believe in war.
