Hilariously, I promised to do this by the weekend.

In September.

Clearly, my customer is getting their pizza for free. But I've reread this series several times in the last month, so when I saw we were in a bit of a lull now, I went back through posts, remembered what I said, and here we go.

they had been hoping that the One-Hit Wonder, of all ships, would offload something a bit more dramatic.
I'm sure some of them were looking for the machine guns hidden behind the headlights.

That's not the same Nagato as the one the Fog ships remember
More on this later, but I was reading all of these Fog-kanmusu interactions with bated breath. I'm very much interested in the actual relationship between them, and the Nagato connection is even more vague than most. Why was there also a Fog Nagato...with a similar personality?

Before the Ragnarök, the honored spirits of warships sunk in battle did manifest in Valhalla
We had a Mini-Story on this, of course, so I won't bother to speculate too much here. I haven't read that in a while. But we know Loki was rather busy during all of this doing other things. Makes me wonder if it wasn't long lost Njord or something.

At any rate, explanation or no, there they were, so Mom and Njörd set up a fleet branch
...Wait. I could have sworn there was a story some time ago where it was mentioned Njord left for parts unknown after his wife left him or cheated on him or somesuch. Did I forget something important?

old ladies of the Royal Navy
This is a topic I meant to ask about some time ago. Some kanmusu appear young, some old, and it's clearly not related to actual years in service or date of creation, since some spacefaring species would make Earth kanmusu of any era positively newborn by comparison. Is it residual self-image? ISTR there was some factor that determined how old someone looks in Valhalla when they arrive, but I can't remember the details, and am not sure if it applies to kanmusu in any event.

triad of Minbari wet-navy cruisers
There's a mention elsewhere in this thread about the suitability of spaceships to have kanmusu, and I admit I'm not sure what the difference would be. Perhaps how much emotion a crew invests in its ship? The unique experiences, the wear and tear, that creates a distinct enough ship to have a unique personality form? Not sure.

Yes! I just finished baking the scones, dess!
The food creation thing is already explained (and very believably!), but I just wanted to note here that they're scarfing down scones, not replenishing fuel bunkers, as the Fog ships put it. It's an interesting cultural difference.

Midway and Growler, who had attempted Return
Did these two ever get rescued?

(Admiral Ravenhair?)" Sendai murmured. "(Since when? Admiral of what?)
Hopefully by the time this is over the kanmusu will feel as though he's earned this title. Clearly, right now it's not a point in his favor.

But the other woman accompanying the Æs was an unknown
This was a good touch, subtly pointing out kanmusu would naturally assume women they see to be other kanmusu in this setting. Not even sure all the Diqiu ships would automatically recognize her.

the main reason Earthforce was so bent on seizing the base was what that fleet was left behind to protect
Did we ever get any indication from Kongo that she, or Earthforce, knew about the Union Cores specifically? Or is it possible they only knew about the base and its defending ships themselves?

They're joined by the Shiratsuyu-class destroyer Yūdachi, and—" A shocked "P-poi?!
And here's the second possible Fog-kanmusu circumstance. Two virtually identical ships, one Fog, one kanmusu. They even both use 'poi'.

Oh my," Jintsū murmured, her eyes wide and cheeks pink at the destroyer’s thigh-high striped stockings and lack of a significant skirt.
I always thought the kanmusu reaction to Shimakaze's outfit was a little overblown here. Is it really worse than some of the other kanmusu outfits out there? Furthermore, they have no way of knowing it wasn't her choice until a moment later, when Corwin explains the circumstances. Compared to, say, Iku's behavior, I'm not sure her outfit would be that bad. Maya points this out in the same scene.

two light cruisers of the Tenryū class, Tenryū and Tatsuta
Not sure if this was asked elsewhere, but is it within Akashi's power to uprate Tenryu and Tatsuta's specs?

our capital ships: fleet aircraft carrier Kaga and the battleship Yamato.
Here's the third circumstance. Kaga and Yamato seem to have been two of the kanmusu that simply didn't show up when the other kanmusu did. As I pointed out elsewhere...if there is one circumstance under which we might actually find out the origins of the Fog, I think it's this one. Was it luck? Did they get diverted by who created the kanmusu to begin with? It might also be Nagato's circumstance, depending on what happened with her. Makes you wonder what's up with the other Fog vessels, and if there's supposed to be kanmusu for them as well.

the Indestructible Battleship Kongō had been struck utterly speechless.
And here's the final circumstance. Two ships with the same name and history, but different looks and personalities. I think there was a mention of the Maya as well, which means both Fog ships have this same problem. I can't -wait- for the explanation for this one. =)

... To borrow one of Maya's own phrases, the latter gave her the creeps.
Fubuki/Buran might be the most significant development, as far as Asgard goes. Whatever the provenance of the Fleet of Fog, you have plain mundane Earth people doing things that are severely affecting an einherjar in Valhalla. Once Fubuki's problems become plainly known, this could draw a LOT of high level attention.

The downside is that I have RSS feeds in my head.
Poor Blue Ridge. =) That WOULD suck.

Korra was surrounded and swept off by a swarm of kanmusu
This was a hilarious scene! My compliments to the word wrangler. =)

Akashi had a Future Industries GearPhone V she'd acquired
I was wondering about this. Akashi, especially, should be able to buy a piece of tech, reverse engineer it, and run it more efficiently on her own hardware. I wonder if she could do that with a game and not cheat at it?

What was more, Kaga saw that they were all wearing equipment of some kind
I have a feeling we'll hear more about this later, but why would the kanmusu choose to do things this way? And if it is a choice, can they go back to just being full size ships, like Fog vessels, or the Reckless, for that matter?

Kaga tilted her head and stared back, a look gathering on her face that combined puzzlement, recognition, and a further layer of puzzlement at the recognition.
And here it is. The first real, solid proof that there's a connection between the Fog and the kanmusu. Kaga having a similar outfit was strong but circumstantial. Her -remembering Akagi- is critical. I'd love to be a fly on the wall (or a reader in the omniscient?) in the ensuing conversation.

was unmistakably a cardboard packing box
This entire scene was comedy gold as well. I was ROFL'ing for a while! Poor Murakumo.

Anyway! Really, REALLY late posts notwithstanding, I still love this series as much as I did when this was just released. I await the next installment on the edge of my seat.

Fearless creatures, we all learn to fight the Reaper
Can't defeat Her, so instead I'll have to be Her
