Weber seems to concentrate on Forester as his model, at least for his early Honor Harrington novels. I think certain aspects of his first ones take the Forester structure a bit too far, but I enjoy them as much as the original Hornblower novels. David Drake does a fine job with more O'Brianesque space opera, following some general themes and structure but creating a much more unique setting from the start. YMMV.
