>The NHS is far from perfect. But it's there. When you need it, >free at point of service, no questions asked. If we didn't have it, >we'd both be long dead. > Sadly it's much less good about a lot of kinds of chronic condition; or at least the ones that aren't solvable with a repeat prescription. (Grumbling in having a partner with a condition whose only treatment is surgery that the NHS doesn't do because it's "cosmetic" and another condition where they won't do surgery ... because of the first condition*. Also having a sister whose been through at least 5 diagnoses in 30 years, the current one being something like "not chronic fatigue syndrome, but something weirder" and a mother who sees 6 different consultants most months, but none of them have any clue why she's twice just had her body shut down only to start working again while the hospital is trying to diagnose the problem) L. * and a condition treated with drugs, but not quite _enough_ because the book says ...; and a condition that's a total mystery but definitely not a brain tumour. |
