>Ballroom". Maybe influence from that? Could be, although the "Palace" part doesn't always appear (the one in New Avalon in UF is the Imperial Hotel Monolith, for instance). I guess I just think "Imperial Hotels" is a good name for a hotel chain--and I'm apparently not alone in that, since a quick web search turned up regional chains with that name, or at least the word Imperial in the name, in several countries.
The Monolith, at least, I can track the reference for. It's named after the hotel in the 1994 The Shadow movie--a film which was not well-regarded in its time and isn't well-regarded now, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.
