(Actually, Synths may be a Terminator riff, but the ones who attack you and Paladin Jerkface at Arcjet remind me a lot more of Nestor Series 5s.)

Also, Nick's unlikely demeanor reminds me of the whole "Real People Personalities" thing in Hitchhiker's Guide. The Sirius Cybernetics Corporation trying to make their robots more human-like and basically just making them all neurotic. "I'm a personality prototype. Can't you tell? Oh God I'm so depressed."

Also also, the people of Diamond City are so paralytically afraid of Synths they shoot each other in canned scenes for fear that someone might be one, and yet Nick wanders around town with wires hanging out of his neck and they're all hey, Nick, what's up. This is not actually a complaint, because that kind of cognitive dissonance is perfectly in character for people who live in the Fens. :)
