"sotd (with mental image), 09/24/2001"

Got a decent visual imagination? Want to try and envision the Art of Noise in concert, with Kaitlyn in the somewhat unaccustomed role of alternate lead guitarist? Grab yourself a copy of Boston's 1986 album Third Stage and cue up track 8 as loud as you can stand it. For the "Art of Noise in pure rock mode" experience, you can't beat this song - the rhythm guitar is dynamite, the bass and drums are razor-sharp, that cool alternating lead guitar thing is... well, cool, and the vocal harmonies are first-rate. Boston achieved this y having one guy play all the instruments (except for a guest guitarist so that the swapping lead solo actually sounded right) and another guy doing all the singing, but if you picture AoN doing it live on stage instead, it becomes a great vehicle for envisioning them at the peak of their hard-rock form and the superb teamwork that entails.

If you're me, with an overly visual imagination and a tremendous fondness for this song and rock-band in-concert imagery, anyhow. If not, then this all probably seems like a really silly and pointless exercise.

Something
Changing for me inside
Took a long time
Now there's
Nothing for me to hide
I'll say what's on my mind
Changes
Making me see the light
I
Finally see wrong from right
Now I can see every sight

Ooh
I think I like it
I think I like what I'm feeling even though it's such a surprise
But you know
Ooh
I think I really like it
I think I like what I'm feeling
Changes really open your eyes

Oh
Look at the world we make
What have we begun?
People
Living for what they take
All for Number One
Changes
Making me see the light
I
Finally see wrong from right
Now that it's all said and done

Ooh
I think I like it
I think I like what I'm feeling even though it's such a surprise
But you know
Ooh
I think I really like it
I think I like what I'm feeling
Changes really open your eyes

Oh
Doesn't love say enough
When you realize
People
Try to come off so tough
All to fantasize
Changes
Taking me through the night
I
Finally see the light
I've opened my eyes

Those changes can open your eyes...

Oh, and here's a picture of Kate's guitar, just because I can.
