"Least Likely Things to Happen in UF?"
|
Just a little bit of absurdity...what do you think probably *won't* happen in UF? Mind you, there can't be any confirmation or denial of how likely it is. Your best bet, then, is to try for the *really* outlandish. Here's a few to start off the list: 1) Gryphon collects all 251 critters on Pok, becoming a Pokemon Master. 2) Megazone and Teleute play Gauntlet together (she wouldn't like "Death" in the game). 3) D. J. Croft crosses over into the UF universe, goes mad, and outpilots everyone in the WDF, gathering a "harem" along the way before being put down by Gryphon. (This is making fun of those who didn't like D. J., not D. J. himself.) 4) A planet with characters from Ranma and DBZ is discovered, then promptly destroyed by an alien invasion. 5) Tabloid headline: "I had Optimus Prime's baby!" 6) Vash the Stampede stops Lord F's threat by repeating "love and peace" until their heads explode. 7) Washuu says "duh." In a lecture hall. Addressing thousands of sentients on her latest theory. 8) Some of the ladies have a round-table discussion like "Sex in the City," only more extreme. 9) Ash from "Evil Dead" and "Army of Darkness" crosses over and proceeds to kill everyone with B-movie one-liners. 10) Kei and Yuri are replaced with android duplicates, who then go the route that everyone accuses them of being. Let the absurdity begin, and remember...it's just a joke. Really. :-) --DocMui

Here's my contribution to this 1) Lord F and Edison hire The Knight Sabers from HL as Special Forces 2) Edison crosses over to an Alternate reality and brings Buckaroo Banzai and Co in to the fun. 3) Lord F sends a SDF to this reality in the middle of Dex Con to pick up the conventioners (and a few more namely ME!) 4) Edison plays with time and space to make http://members.tripod.com/~BBILiason the reality of choice. Last one! 5) One of Rondey Dangerfield's best lines from Caddyshack happens... Everybody gets laid! It's all fun and games until somebody losses an eye. Fan |

>4) A planet with characters from Ranma and DBZ is discovered, then >promptly destroyed by an alien invasion. Alien invasion? In true DBZ style, the story should be 30 pages of infinite and repetative detail describing MegaZone building up the proper ire to mash the 'fire' button on the reflex cannon with his thumb, spiking said planet with the beam and causing it to twitch out of existance with a Death Star-esque explosion. All while the other major UF players stand around him and tensely argue reasons for and against him doing so. This probably would also involve Zoner saying 'Nnngh!' a lot. Actually, everyone would probably be doing that, for no good reason. >5) Tabloid headline: "I had Optimus Prime's baby!" Actually, I can see this. It seems right on par with the usual tabloid fare. The fact that it's probably physically impossible would just sell more copies. ------------------------ "saaaausaaaage... " ------------------------ Chad Collier Digital Bitch J. Random VFX Company |

His engine transforms into an armored human. And the armor can come off. And 'Olaf Peterssen' served in Eight-Ball Squadron. "I don't belive this, Prime! How could they print something like that?" <shifts> "Actually... it may be true." <WHANG> "WHAT?" "During the time when my body was being rebuilt and I was serving with the Wedge Defence Force as Olaf Peterssen... some of my fellow pilots took me out one night to show me the town, as they said. When I woke up again, I was lying in a bathtub in one of the hinterlands of the SDF-17, my head pounded like Devatastor had used it as a practice dummy and I had no idea where my pants were." -- Geoff Depew - Mephron Haberdasher to Androids, Malakite of Tech Support Professionals |

Actually, I could see Jusenkyo being a plot. My addition to the madness: 1. One of the core WDF people falls into a random Jusenkyo pool! 2. Genma turns out to be a descendant of Lord F! 3. Three sexaroids named Ranma-chan, Akane, and Nabiki! TLA |

1. Lord F loses the Dyson Sphere in a hand of Sabacc with Ikari Gendou (NXE version) 2. Kei decides that she's too violent and has hypnotherapy to emulate Kasumi Tendo 3. The Q consortium kidnaps Selene and convinces her she's Sailor Moon 4. The Sailor Senshi exist, go to High School with Corwin, and are the founding members of the Experts of Justice 5. Kaitlyn dumps the piano and starts a Death/Speed Metal Band called Tenth World is Hell. 6. Anthy proves to be a character we actually like and is worthy of Utena* 7. Devlin is actually Edison Bell 8. Corwin fights a Rose Duel -- and loses 9. Eve goes crazy and slowly takes over the universe ala "The Matrix" 10. Honor Harrington will become a Freespacer 11. Tiny Robo is actually the reincarnation of Largo, Mark II. 12. Yui is dumped in a Chinese pond and turns into a red headed boy 13. Dorothy decides the Lovely Angels are her heros and begins to wear plastic bikinis 14. Rent-A-Zilla will destroy Worchester. T. * Who admits that she doesn't really like Anthy at all, and doesn't think she's worthy of the Utena that our august authors have developed.

>Kate groks metal. She also groks classical. The two ain't exclusive. >}:-{D I know. I was actually making fun of the idea that she'd stop playing the piano. That and I listened to some online Metal (not Trash, something worse) at a Kinkos and wasn't appalled..but bored by the lack of variety. It seemed funny when I posted. This caffeine-free existence is not working for me. >Stranger things have happened. After all, -Washuu- proved to be a >character we actually like (although she sometimes scares the living >shit out of us).
True, and if any one could do it, it would be Eyrie. Btw I only saw and read scripts for the first 13 episodes. The episode listing at Blood and Honor did nothing to improve my opinion of Ms. Himemiya. The last episode in particular sorta set my teeth on edge. >>10. Honor Harrington will become a Freespacer > >Um, no. Not for lack of recruiting, but no.
Damn. Aral Vorkosigan and Honor Harrington would have been sweet. I mean, you have other Manticorans in the Freespacers, why not get someone worthy? No chance of getting White Haven I guess, hm? or Tom Theisman? and yes, I am adicted to Baen books. >>13. However, the Haven equivalent in UF is -VERY- badly in flux, as there are no current story plans requiring it or its people. The best vision I've had of it in UF- and this is so unofficial it's not funny- is as a part of an older personal vision, the New Paris system. New Paris is not a world, it's a solar system where not less than -SIX- M-class worlds exist. Haven (or, if I change my mind, Nouveau Paris) was the only one to be scouted by the robot probe, and it turned out to be the worst of the lot. You also have Aquitaine, Burgundy, Normandy, Britanny, and the two largest moons of the system's gas giant, Sardinia and Corsica. The New Paris system secedes from the United Galactica during the economic turmoil following Sonfall. Before then, it had become -the- tourist/vacation mecca of the Galactica. During the early Exile, it became a conquering star empire, but by 2365 it had been checked, stopped, and effectively destroyed except for its home system, and efforts by various parties to either bring peace or gain advantage left the system with no fewer than five governments claiming some or all of the system, all at war with each other. The place of the canonical Havenite commanders in such a situation is, to say the least, very fluid, but it doesn't admit easily of extraction therefrom. I've got a little question: Will the Zentraedi (Did I spell that right?) ever appear in UF? And what about Queen Emeraldas? I bought the DVD at AnimagiC 2001 and I think that the Queen Emeraldas (the ship not the person) kicks ass.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-29-01 AT 05:43 PM (EDT) >>That would be because Larry Niven can just fuck right the hell off. > >Like, have some venom? >(wonder why...) Well, it could be because his writing isn't enjoyable. Or it could be because his theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, his methods are sloppy, and his conclusions are highly questionable. Or maybe it has to do with his misogynistic streak, though admittedly that has been eclipsed on my personal contempt scale by that of Dave Sim (which isn't so much a streak as a load-bearing member). Or it could be because he destroyed the WPI Science Fiction Society's con, Technicon, back in the 80s, and nearly destroyed the SFS itself in the process. Or you could boil all that down and encapsulate it in the more concise phrase, "he sucks." --G. -><- Benjamin D. Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino start an underwater exploratory branch of the WDF. Largo returns... as a good guy. The UFP goes bad, so the WDF institutes operation Meteor, which fails miserably due to the operatives involved having too much yaoi sex. Zoner builds the Daytona from Hell MKII on a '69 Dodge Charger Daytona. Deckers the galaxy over get zinged by a strange blue-skinned person who runs around in underwear. Detians can metabolize out any toxins, etc - which is how they can go from shitfaced to sober in 30 seconds. It is a learned talent - basically accelerating natural effects. So with something like booze you sweat profusely and suddenly need to piss *right now* - and you may get an instant hangover from dehydration. The effects of speeding up metabolizing THC aren't as severe so it probably doesn't have much of an effect - maybe killer munchies. -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage http://www.megazone.org/ Eyrie Productions FanFic http://www.eyrie-productions.com/ See what I'm selling on eBay |

but it is a VERY convienient excuse for use when socializing with those who consume drugs you'd rather not consume- I've been using it as such since I arrived back in Alaska. |

My whole family loves Steve Irwin - but now there's about eight hundred imitators. But that's not what I came for - I'm sure you all know this, but Sluggy Freelance has an excellent segment with an Irwin rip-off in it. While it has it's ups and downs as a comic, it's worth reading just for that arc... 'Ouch! Can we have a version of 'Survivor' where we get to vote bad television shows off the air? Um, considering that the people who'd be doing the voting would be the same people who appear as contestants on 'reality' shows... you might not want that. Then again, given Nielsen ratings, we already have that, so, um, sucks to be you. --Zenigame, who hasn't watched TV in ages-- all the good shoes have already been 'voted off the island'

I dunno.. after all, when you think about the evils of Pokemon, isn't it highly likely that the annoying little buggers are a secret plot by the Shadows? I can see it now.. Gryph and Zoner leading an all out strike on Z'ha'dum in order to destroy the evil that is Pokemon. *blinks* That's one "Crusade" I could definitely applaude. Now hey now. Not everybody in the universe thinks Pokémon is the next Barney, y'know. It's a very cheesy show, yes, and the translation makes it worse, I think (I've read a fansub of the first movie, and it made a lot more sense than the 'fighting is bad, mmmkay?' moral of the American version), but I personally find it rather appealing. I mean, cute fuzzy critters pitted against each other in gladiatorial duels... what's not to like? n_n Heck, I think it'd be cool if Team Eyrie made use of some Pokémon elements in their fics (feel free to point me in the right direction if they have already, 'cause I've missed it). Heck, if they want to file the serial numbers off and have generic cute fuzzy critters bashing other cute fuzzy critters, that's fine by me. That depends on how they feel about it, of course, but I draw hope from their not having declared Eyrie a no-Pokémon zone; they're pretty open about stuff they don't like. And hey, they could always write a story that is to Pokémon as NXE is to NGE. I wouldn't mind. n_n --Zenigame, whose name makes it pretty damn obvious what kind of pokémon he is |

>"I'm just worried about what'll happen to this fic if you guys turn it >into a lemon." I shouldn't think there was much worry of that; I can't write explicit sex scenes up to my standards of quality. I end up feeling too silly about it all. Hell, I rarely cross the 'R' line. There are those in the group who have attempted it, but as I'm E in C, I still shouldn't think there was much worry of that. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >Just a little bit of absurdity...what do you think probably *won't* >happen in UF? Yuri got up from the floor rubing the lump on her head and had a somewhat dazed look in her eyes. Zoner looked worried at her and asked, "Hey, yuri, everything okay?" Yuri looked suprised as he talked, as if she noticed him for the firs time. Then without warning she launched herself at him with a cry of "AIREN!!!" and glomped him. "Ah... Yuri, what are you doing?... Yuri?" stammered Zoner but Yuri only said. "Wo ai ni."...

>Then again, we also did "Smells Like Nirvana." I once played a cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with a couple of buddies in college at a Battle of the Bands. (We also did "Cherub Rock", which actually went rather well.) The guitarist/singer could not remember the second verse for the life of him, no matter how many times he wrote it down or memorized it, so he wound up singing the verse from "Smells Like Nirvana" that goes: And I forget the next verse Oh well I guess it pays to rehearse It's hard to garble nawdle zouss With all these marbles in my mouth (We also had a kazoo player come up to do the guitar solo with the guitarist. This was after Cobain's death, too, and we felt it was a better tribute than getting all wanky and pretentious. Oh, yeah, and I played a funk bass line.) -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! >>1)The Borg appear, [snip] > >Dude, you could have stopped right there. For the record, it's conceivable that the Borg might appear in UF, but if they do, they'll be significantly altered. As they appeared on Star Trek, they were poorly-designed villains; they were utterly invincible, to the point where the heroes could not defeat them without the writers resorting to Extreme Hokiness. This is a very bad quality for a villain to have, so if they appear in UF, they won't have it. The UF universe already does have the SF race the Borg were obviously inspired by, anyhow. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. >>The UF universe already does have the SF race the Borg were >>obviously inspired by, anyhow. :) >> >Bwaa? I seemed to have missed something important then... which race >were they inspired by? Certanly NOT the Cybertonians! The Cybermen, Doctor Who. Human species (originally from Counter-Earth, as a matter of fact) who, in a search for self-perfection (and to survive the harsh conditions of their world), slowly replaced bits of themselves with cybernetic parts until there was pretty much no organic material left. In the process, they programmed out their emotions (at least the positive ones) and dedicated themselves to mechanized conquest. They capture members of other humanoid species and cybernize them to increase their own ranks, since they're unable to reproduce naturally any longer. Their goal is the conquest of the universe. They don't have a hive mind or that ridiculous "anything you can do we can counter automatically" ability, but I should think the parallels are obvious... In UF, there are several different "subspecies" among the Cyberrace, and not all of them are malevolent. Perhaps I should post the informational file on them; I've had it for some time, but never really had anything to do with it. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Data showed that the Borg Collective was eminently crackable. In the UF universe, the Borg would be a very vulnerable race, especially for someone like Slappi Squirl. The state of the art in computer intrusions is much higher in UF than Star Trek, so we have the one needed weapon the Federation lacks. I suggest that, by the time of Future Imperfect, the Borg are a very powerful military threat if you went head-to-head with it. But one 31337 script kiddie with a laptop and an attitude should be able to blue-screen the entire collective straight to hell. --rR

While testing out the new ship design, entitled Glorious Heritage, Megazone and Andromeda (one of EVE's children, akin to Shakespear) get caught in a blackhole for three hundred and have to rebuild the WDF after it's fall to the combined forces of the Kilrathi and Klingon empires (I figure it's a close combination/approximation to UF Nietzscheans). Along the way Zoner and Rommy pick up Beka Valentine and her crew aboard the Beebop (yes, I realize the Cowboy Beebop is UF-canon circa 2405, but the amalgamation suits my hypothesis better than the Eureka Maru -- whose Japanese conotational name does lend itself nicely to the anime usage) to help them drive back the coming Beast Planet (another amalgation) and reform the WDF. Only then, after saving the universe, does Zoner get a trip back courtesy of DocMui... Well, you know, they said least likely. Static-Pulse Yes. >what do you think probably *won't* >happen in UF? The Orion 8 showing up. That ship is seriously too overpowered for UF... I mean, a fast crusier with a crew of 6 and a omega-class weapon that can cheerfully blow up a planet withou much effort, that is just too much, even for UF. oh, and another one. It's not that easy, the Orion is a _FAST_ crusier after all. By the time the Lexx needs to power up its weapon the Orion has already sliped behind it and blasted it into the next week with its secondary weapons the Ligh Throwers. The Overkill, too, needs some time to power up. Not to mention that IIRC the Orion could outrace anything short of a fold-drive... gotta love those late 60s scifi series. ^^; ---------------- And the winner is... THE HYPNOTOAD! More odd stuff that won't happen... 1) Corwin trades in Nall for Keroberos from Card Captor Sakura. In plushie form. ("Konyayachiwa!" "Oh, *no*...") 2) Liza Broadbank falls into the *bad* cliche of "I hate you, therefore I love you" with Kaitlyn. 3) Pfloyd is replaced as head of the Hammers by Solid Snake. 4) Odin reveals that one of his hobbies was to turn into a black cat and follow Vash the Stampede around. 5) Psycho Mantis brainwashes Bester into becoming his personal lapdog. 6) Kei and Yuri play against a bunch of 5 year-olds in laser tag...and lose. 7) Ben veers away from The Shadow as an inspiration, instead heading more towards Doc Savage. 8) The CID's greatest detective? Columbo. Just some odd thoughts. --DocMui

A few additions and extraneous thoughts: >1) Corwin trades in Nall for Keroberos from Card Captor Sakura. In >plushie form. ("Konyayachiwa!" "Oh, *no*...") So Nall just goes to hang out with Utena :) >2) Liza Broadbank falls into the *bad* cliche of "I hate you, >therefore I love you" with Kaitlyn. 2a) And Kaitlyn reciprocates (NOT!) >6) Kei and Yuri play against a bunch of 5 year-olds in laser >tag...and lose. 6a) ...and admit it. 6b) ...and don't get upset about it. >8) The CID's greatest detective? Columbo. 8a) Followed closely by Scooby Doo and tha gang :) 9) Gryphon and Zoner get real pissed at each other and have a duel with Wave Motion Guns at thirty paces...
