"Kaitlyn's abilities"

I'm tired of sorting through the old thread, so here is a brand new one (yeah).

Anyway, in the other thread, people mentioned being concerned about Kaitlyn's abilities with the sword. Personally, I don't have any problem with the way that worked. It was made very apparent that she was practicing for 2 hours every day, while her opponent appeared to be very out of sorts mentally and physically. I don't think it would be an issue given those conditions for her to defeat him.

The one aspect of her abilities that DOES bother me (just a little) is the pack of 15 year olds in a rather succesful band. It isn't impossible I'll admit, but it is a little far fetched, and on top of other things a little hard for me to swallow. Then again, since it isn't like they are being handed record deals and galactic tours or anything like that, so maybe it isn't so bad after all. I will say that aspect of things would annoy me before her swordsmanship.

Hey , if you're reading a fanfic as deeply entrenched in anime beckgrounds
as this one is you shouldn't really be bothered with something like that .

Gonna have to go with Griever on this one. These are student band officers at a school with one of the galaxy's most prestigious music programs, after all, not my five high-school buddies who had a thrash-metal band that played the VFW Hall on the weekends. :)

Oh, I have absolutely no problem with how talented they are, but a band as succesful as I interpretted theirs to be outside of all else they do starts to get towards (but not necessarily over) unbelievability.

Eh... they're not that big a deal. They have records and t-shirts to sell at their shows, but they don't have a distribution deal or anything. They play a show or so a month, usually locally - the Toronto thing was the first time they'd ever played that far afield, and came as a result of a recommendation that a friend of Devlin's in a local college band made.

It's something fun to do with their time and hone their craft away from the formalized orchestra setting - not really a big business venture or anything. They don't even have a real agent, just Devlin using a telephone. :)

Yup. Bands which have Truly Made It don't play Sir Morgan's Dive. ;)

And, it should be noted, they did just barely better than breakeven -- if that -- on the Toronto show in Wounded Rose. They did it mostly because it was fun... which is the whole point of the exercise, as far as they're concerned.

Once you factor in the visit to the Ontario Science Centre and the donuts, they actually lost money on the trip, but what the hell. :)

They're not really interested in being a hugely successful band; that would take up too much of their time and energy, and expose them to nasty, stinky parts of galactic culture (like record company executives). They're just in it for the feeling they get from giving a good show.

I sort of got to rambling in my statement, I guess what it ultimately comes down to is: I have a greater problem accepting her successful band (note not her own personal music talents) than her abilities with a sword, however I can roll with it and am salivating in anticipation for the next installment

well, lets see... We have the daughter of not one, but TWO of THE movers and shakers of the universe, and you have a problem with them being a successfull band at 15?

I'm not... didn't stretch the bounds of disbelief to me at all.

The only point where I was Truly caught off guard and going WHA was when it was her brother Corwin who got out of the Silver Thunderbird, not Griffon himself. Then again, I may have read to much into Kait's singing silver thunderbird earlier.

Which raises an interesting question... Does Omega 3 pass itself along to children?

I'm probobly most concerned by the appearance of god marks on her brother... makes me wonder just what happens in the final seal of Twilight, AND I CANT ASK CAUSE ITS NOT ALLOWED ::boo hoo::

(That's "Gryphon".)

Well, "Silver Thunderbird" isn't exactly accurate, as Kate herself points out; it's an old song, and she likes it because of the image of her father as "cool guy with cool car" that it evokes in her mind, even though Dad's more of a black Cadillac man himself.

The car Corwin arrives in is neither silver nor a Thunderbird - it's a black 2041 Griffon Mark II limousine.

Ah, the wonders of spellcheck. I've grown so reliant on the darn thing I've forgotten how to spell on my onw. ^o^

I guess I really did read to much into her singing thunderbird, maybe because I love the song too... cause when I read the description of the car, (especially the line about all the chrome) I thought it was. ::shrug::

OK. Try to stay with me:

- Gryphon isn't very good at biocontrol.
- Which means that during the Golden Age that job had to be left to Kei.
- Who didn't particularly want to start a family at the time.

Ergo, they weren't really trying.

Not really, Detians have have enough biocontrol to prevent pregnancy, but Kei was with Ben for the first time in a century, so it's understandable she forgot about it when she became pregant with Kate. Skuld probably has the same ability, but she seems to have had no problem with having Corwin.

Get it? There's a reason G holds the title "Champion of Tomorrow's Light" following Twilight. :)

Very poetic. I like it. Although I'm still green with envy.

Hey, I don't remember hearing that title before... (Starts going through UF printouts) Where'd that one come from?

No, but it's not much of a leak. I mean, you look at Twilight and it isn't much of a shock he has a title like that after it. He only killed Fenris to protect Skuld. If that won't get you named Champion of Tomorrow's Light what will? :)

Technically, that would make him Champion of Tomorrow's [DELETED], but since these aren't the Greco-Roman gods, they don't actually go around giving people titles like that.

But wasn't Peroth also known as Eris, who serves as the goddess of the Discordians now and the Greeks several thousand years ago? That could sorta make all of 'em Greco-Roman gods, which means..... I better shut up now.

Hey, that's cool - if you quote back something with square brackets put in using the ampersand-semicolon codes, they're just quoted back rendered as square brackets, which means DCF takes them for markup and ignores them.

Zoner, fix that. (And why are some people's quoteback wrapping oddly? Is that a browser thing?)

>"Scary thought; Pokemon in UF."

Been thought of already. Probably appear someday. I had an amusing dream at Katsucon last year where I had a pikachu, and people kept coming up to me and wanting to have it fight their pokemon, and I had to keep explaining that I wasn't into that kind of scene and Sparky was just a pet, not a gladiator or anything.

The next night I had that same dream again, except instead of a pikachu, I had the redheaded ninja (Sakura) from Ninja Cadets!.

But the Pokemon meme persisted, so all she could say was stuff like, "Ninja. Ninja nin nin ja nin? Ja, nin ninja."

Sometimes it's hard living in my head.

'Course, I was sick that whole weekend, and they say fever does odd things to dreams. At least I didn't inadvertently summon Kyouichi Saionji.[1]

--G.
[1]Though, being uninvolved with that whole thing he's obsessed with, I'd probably get along OK with him. He's a funny guy when he's not out of his mind.

Sounds about right... One of my friends first saw Monty Python and the Holy Grail at 3am with a 104 fever - the next morning the doctor had to assure him that he wasn't halucinating...

Cool, bizzare dreams that could help to create stories. That always happens to me. Not that my stories always turn out good mind you.... Although I'm kinda curious to see how you'd fit this one in. I'm still impressed with Rednecks effort with Hy'ruul.

Somebody should make a Pokemon mod for MechwarriorIII (IV doesn't have 'killable' infantry) .
I can see it now ,steering a Madcat into a heard of Pikachus .
DIE , DIE , BUAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
(my , aren't we bloodthirsty today)

is there really a Pokemon Quake mod or is it just an invention
of your imagination?(if it does exist then where can I get it?)

As you might guess from my post name, I'm a poke'mon fan, so I'd be more likely to be interested in a mod that produced poke'mon-themed mechs. n_n

Speaking of Quake, I've seen skins for it (well, for Elite Force, but I understand the skins were converted from Quake skins) for Ash and Team Rocket; I'm still waiting for poke'mon skins, though (which'd be harder, because you don't have a human frame to build the animation on). Ah, to vaporize Borg as a Bulbasaur (or, for those who insist on picking on the poke'mon, you could always go up against a half-dozen pikabots with your weapon of choice...)

Like what ? Take a MechwarriorIII Puma and replace model with one of a Pikachu maybe . The twin PPCs?
Or if you'd like 'realistic' electric discharge effects you should take one of the first two Earthsiege games , replace model of choice and then put an ELF on it . That'd be fun .
Course , I still prefer the idea of replacing the infantry models in MW3 with Pikachu models but that's just personal preference .

-Griever
and I'm a FF fan so give me a flight sim with the Ragnarok in it (the Highwind or the Falcon would do too , I guess , but the Ragnarok is still better ).The frame , the weapons , the ... oh hell .
Go see 'Kick butt vehicle/mecha/fighter' if interested.
