"Three thoughts on SotS 5"

   1) Ed is a teenage technowizard who is about to do battle with raging hormones. Corwin is currently at loose ends (though I don't think that'll last - I get the feeling that Utena is in major denial) and is a teenage technowizard currently doing battle with raging hormones. At some point I fully expect Ed to take notice of Corwin, confer briefly with Ein, then drag the poor bastard into the nearest unoccupied room to have her way with him as Ein guards the door. I can also easily envision Ed attempting to reassure Corwin that she knows what she's doing, having read several months worth of posts to the alt.sex hiearchy on Usenet.

2) At some point in Hunted Rose, I expect one of our heroes to be in Corps custody, being mentally worked over by a P12 PsiCop. Deep into the scan, the cop doesn't pay attention to the muffled sounds of explosions nearby or the shouts of Corps personnel until it's too late. Suddenly the nearest wall explodes, the rubble collpasing to reveal...G'Kron leading his very own Narn Bat Squad. Cue a particularly savage beatdown.

3) As my friend Tim pointed out, Kaitlin is Liza Broadbank's own personal Reed Richards. I'm waiting for the explosion that ravages Liza's facial features beyond even the most advanced cosmetic surgery, forcing her to wear a variety of metal masks at all times, all color coordinated to match her outfits. She'll go on to rule the planet Neo Latvaria, terrorize the Duelists with her insidious Lizabots, and be roundly defated time after time, leaving her howling at the top of her lungs: "THIS IS HUTCHINS FAULT!"

Oh, I know. It's just such a pleasant image, though. Besides, a G'Kron Bat Squad would be letting the Corps off light compared to the sheer horror of being verbally assaulted by a livid G'Kron leading the Narn Rhetoric Squad.

Cute, but somehow I don't see it. Ed, it would seem, is about as clueless as Hiroshi when it comes to sexuality, though for entirely different (gender-related) reasons. Corwin at least knows about the birds and the bees...well, Ed would too, but solely in a technical sense. There's a connection between understanding sexuality and understanding -sensuality- that Edward is missing. Oh, I agree they're a wonderful potential couple (they're both worldly enough to maybe possibly be able to handle it...) but if anything, the courtship would go like this: Corwin sends an email to Ed, with attachment. The attachment, when downloaded, does some nifty and technologuically impossible trick, like rezzing into a 3D object as a gift for her. Ed forgets about the gift totally and spends forever and a day chasing Corwin to find out how he did it. Ein, being the super-intelligent dog he is, stays the hell out of it. =P

We already know Corwin's opinion of alt.sex. Remember Dorothy and her bed?

Anyhow, Corwin would know much more than anyone who learned from alt.sex. He's got Auntie Urd, after all...

Out of context (and with a less than clueless reader...maybe the ones who think DJ's P-test score is lower than it really is?) the Auntie Urd comment could be seriously misconstrued. Despite being Gods and Goddess, they're not that type of family are they?

... ...

... I'm not touching that one.

On a (slightly) more serious note, I doubt Urd would do that just because of the whole power thing. She's an authority figure in Corwin's life, and teaching him... directly... would just be wrong. However, she could easily see to it that he was educated, even if he hasn't had any firsthand experience. (And I'm not going to guess whether or not he has. I'm not going to guess what goes on in the Valkyrie locker room... or, more accurately, what will be going on in the Valkyrie locker room.)

Not usually, but I guess I ought to say - Urd has taken a hand in Corwin's preparation for life in the world. Not by way of direct demonstration, no, but she's seen to it that he's had access to information. She's the goddess of love - one could take the view that it's her job.

(Note that this includes a great deal more than you might think offhand. Urd may often come across as a parody of a love goddess, "love" in the same sense that the Japanese mean it in "love hotel", but she's actually quite a romantic at heart. She's made certain that Corwin is versed in a number of aspects of her Word that have nothing to do with the horizontal polka. Where do you think he learned how to dance?)

You're an X-Files shipper aren't you?

Um...why would Corwin (having found his beloved) even _think_ about having a casual sexual relationship with Ed who is just starting to get curvy? And why would Ed (assuming the curves imply sudden bodice ripping lust) be interested in a barely pubescent boy?

Pray tell, why would Ed want to be with Corwin necessarily? We have:
Mac - anarchist, bad with people, likes machines, doesn't talk much
Dorothy - machine, and sexually active
Durandal - AIs may want to have fun and reality is what you make it
Azalyn - who is (a) experienced, (b) safe, (c) a friend

Um, and why would Ed even want to do the Leeanna trick? It just doesn't seem her style. Also, are you sure Ed is even into boys? And why not

Anyway, why assume that curves=raging hormones? A lot of girls don't get vibed up for real until their older and more comfortable with the bodies.

Well...Although delighted by the thought of pacifist G'Kron explaining his philosophy, baseball bat in hand to a set of helpless Corps personnel is rather satisying, I gotta say this:

Like no way man.

As a side note: what type of PSI (esp one with some real juice) doesn't pay attention to spiking emotions and mental cries of pain, agony, and torture?

Reed Richards == Mr. Fantastic, the fellow from Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four series. Genius scientist, plastic stretchable body.

The comparison Fnord's trying to make is with Victor von Doom, who was a college classmate of Reed's and disfigured in a lab accident during a spate of one-upmanship, eventually becoming Dr. Doom, ruler of a small Eastern European dictatorship and creator of Doombots to do his nefarious bidding.

I doubt the initial speculation was a serious one, but just because I feel strongly about this particular corner of the arc, I'll answer this. But first a cavil:

"Even think about" is a pretty strong qualifier. I mean, he's nearly fourteen. At that age, the male of the species "even thinks about" sexual congress with just about anyone who meets his basic standards of attraction, up to and including his close relations, total strangers on the street, and long-dead historical figures. That's in much the same way that you or I "even think about" being unfathomably wealthy, though. It'd be cool, but it's not seriously expected to happen. :)

Now, if you rephrase your question as "seriously consider", then the answer is obviously, as you no doubt meant to imply, "He wouldn't."

[further objections snipped for space]
>Um, and why would Ed even want to do the Leeanna trick? It just
>doesn't seem her style. Also, are you sure Ed is even into boys? And
>why not

Whoa, easy there, Trig. You're getting so honked off you're leaving lines incomplete. My dad does that sometimes, gets so mad he can't finish one sentence before he has to start another... :)

Anyhow, I think - I hope! - the whole post was in jest, 'cause nothing there is particularly take-seriousable, to mangle the language for my own nefarious purposes. :)

It was. I'm just killing time waiting for the SO and the crew to show up so I can go to dinner and then to the 2nd professional basketball game of the night. I hope I didn't come on too strong. It's just that some of the ideas read like some really _bad_ story lines I've read (and I'm sure you have too).

I'd love some day to do a documentary called "When Fan Fiction Writers Attack" or "When Good Stories Go Bad"

Yeah, it is....esp. since I meant to say "the 2nd professional basketball game of my life".

Alas, my college and high school teams never made it that far. Now our math team on the other hand...

Ah. And here I'd interpreted it as "tonight." Which struck me as a little odd, given that you don't generally find two of them in the same area on the same day, but I figured maybe you lived in LA and the Lakers and Clippers were doing something weird. :)

>Proud to be a mathlete...I even have a letter!

I got a letter for band... I think it's still on my old school jacket, in my father's closet. Doesn't anywhere near fit me any more.

Did two stints as the editor-in-chief of the school yearbook, worked on it my sophomore year as well. Sold tickets a handful of times for the drama club, ushered twice for shows, and painted a piece of scenery once.

What did I get my letter in? You guessed it, Drama Club. ;)

You all got letters? Jeeze, what idiots ran my high school?

(In all fairness, though, it was brand new -- mine was the first class to go completely through it, freshman to senior... A lot of "features" were on hold during the "shakedown" years.)

This is wildly off topical, but having been a running theme <and BTW, no insult intended here or anything but...>

Trigger, are you geneticly incapable of quoting messages in your replies?
<aplogies to the misunderstanding ahead of time, I mean no harm, just... ye flippin gods I wish DCForums would just remove that little 'reply' link so people had to quote something>

My dear FnordChan, I was taking me too seriously.

I'm better now. A good basketball game (we lost, but it was the refs fault...well that and the 15 turnovers in the 1st half) and 8 hours of sleep can revitalize and de-putz anyone.

I think Ed and Corwin would make a cute couple, and that particular scenario broke me good.

I'd rather be beaten than forced to listen to G'Kron in full Rant Mode at 700,000 rpm.

Corwin smiled in his sleep, drooling slightly on his pillow. He was having The Pickle Dream.

*poke* *poke*

He stopped smiling, and unconciously tried to burrow deeper into his pillow.

*poke* *poke*

He rolled most of the way over in an instinctive bid to escape the irritating prodding that threatened to pull him out of the realms of Morpheus.

"WHOOF!" Someone had just jumped onto his stomach. He lurched halfway into a sitting position, sending his attacker tumbling cutely onto the foot of the bed. He shook his head, tried to gather his thoughts. "Ed? Can't it wait til morning?"

Ed leaned close to his face, smiling slightly. "Nope!" she said cheerfully.

He sighed and leaned back against the headboard. "Allright. What is it?"

"Ed," she said with a sombre look, "wants nookie."

He boggled. "WHA-MMGGMPH?!"

She shoved him back flat, never letting the liplock go.

(And Nathan thinks he'd better stop here, before it turns into the sort of story that he is legally forbidden to read and is not qualified to write anywho. ^_^)

Blessed be.
