It's lines like these that bring me back to EPU stories time and time again. The wit that abounds (as well as the occasional guffaw) keep me reading. The stories are good too! *grin*Tom 'Dreamshadow' Tjarks ------------------------ "There are no answers, only cross references." |

Might explain why, in his sleep deprived state, he knew to add the "Please don't hit" part. :) Might have something to do with the fact that I did something similar when I was about eight at one of my brother or sister's swim meets while hunting a restroom. I find it faintly amusing that the only thing I could parse out of the moment at the time was to pay far more attention to the doors I was opening in the future. ------------------------ Chad Collier--and no, my sister wasn't in there...sick bastards... :) Digital Bitch J. And I saw your first post immediately after posting the above. Duh. Still, the first time he happened in there without his mother had to have been at least awkward. And maybe the 'don't hit' came from witnessing someone else stumbling in who truly didn't belong there. :) "B-b-b-but, what about him?!?" >'sides I rather suspect that his feelings for Utena are unique. >Afterall, if he hasn't "noticed" the ladies of Asgard before this, why >should he notice them now? True, but what would be closer to what I was thinking was his reaction to them noticing him. :) And now I have a fit of giggles thinking about the idea of Utena being there when he gets his first dose of good natured Valkyrie grabass (as my father would call it). I'm sure her reaction to his reaction would be equally priceless. Heh. ------------------------ "saaaausaaaage... " ------------------------ Chad Collier Digital Bitch J. Random VFX Company |

>Hah! Envy him. Experienced older women (I've been told) are the only >way to go... Hardly the 'only' way to go - but when I was 21 I dated a 28 year old, and when I was 22 I was seeing a 32 year old. Actually I was dating both of them for a while - yes, they both knew and were both cool with that. It was very, hmm, educational. :-) I still miss the first, I was, and remain, very much in love with her - *and* she was a fantastic lover. But life is messier than we wish sometimes - we dated while she was separated from her husband, and they reconciled. We've kept in touch, but less and less often over the years. ANYWAY... I've also dated women several years younger than myself (I'm 30 now), and that is a lot of fun too. I think it matters more how mature someone is than their biological age. -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage http://www.megazone.org/ Eyrie Productions FanFic http://www.eyrie-productions.com/ See what I'm selling on eBay |

>Well, it's not all a day at the beach, y'know... Well, no. Asgard is on a mountain top, and the mythology is based on really cold parts of Europe, so it's more like a day at the fjord. But seriously, while I'm sure Corwin will face all the hazing that any man (at any age) will get from a tight knit group of older yet physically young woman, it's not as bad as say, training with frost giants. Of course the he's going to be embarassed at some point, the source of diatribes against his gender, and hit on as he gets older and cuter. Assuming he has the Hutchins' babe magnet charisma. And he will have every single one of them working him into the ground so that he passes his Ascension with flying colors. It will be really, really tough and not always fair. But at least the scenery's nice, and probably smells good most of the time... t. Trigger Argee trigger_argee@hotmail.com Manon, Orado, etc. Denton, never leave home without it.

And that's the easy part. How many of them will see him as a (much) younger brother and produce baby photos and old anecdotes anytime he has a guest? Re: the later thread David Drake did some interesting Norse stuff in Northworld, once you get past the sf trappings. He did base if off the Edda. Also, I recommend Linda Evans' novel Sleipnir. A very gritty look at the Norse that's got very little in common with Sonoda's Norns. That's OK, I had a bit of fun trying to envision what Oh My Goddess! would be like if it were by Kenichi Sonoda. I came to the conclusion that the cars would be drawn with about the same level of loving detail, there would be a lot more guns (read: "any"), and although the goddesses' hairstyles and wardrobes would be considerably simpler, they'd be having a lot more sex. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. (Not that I remember as much of that as I should. The class was taught by a grad student t/a and there were many occasions where it felt like it was the last place he wanted to be.) So, I'm curious if anyone has any good recommendations for books on Norse Mythology, preferably not dry and textbookish... ------------------------ "saaaausaaaage... >So, I'm curious if anyone has any good recommendations for books on >Norse Mythology, preferably not dry and textbookish... Well, I recommend Wagners' Ring Cycle as a starting place. You could then get a copy of a Norse edda or two. Beowulf would not be agood example because it's Christianized. Other interesting sources would have to be the Sandman "Season of the Mists" for a look at the Norse and other pantheons. I also picked up some good books from the library. Most books on the subject tend to be decent because it is obscure. I don't know of a definitely work on the subject. Clearly it's time I corrected that. t. don't we have a bunch of wotan worshippers posting to the site? Trigger Argee trigger_argee@hotmail.com Manon, Orado, etc. Denton, never leave home without it.

>**correction starts here** >Well wiccan versions maybe... But true norse mythology based? Very >hard to find nowadays. >**correction ends here** There's plenty of Asatruar out there. I know several. But I'm not one, and my knowledge of Norse mythology focuses on Odhinn's and Loki's cycles, and to a lesser degree, Thunor's. So I'm afraid I don't know a great deal about the Valkyriar, relatively speaking, or the Norns. -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! Mythologically, the Norns are at the top of an order of beings that includes the Valkyriar and ran down to lesser (can you say 'chibi') Norns of which there was one for each and every human (and presumably alfarr etc) whose job was to keep their charge on the destiny outlined by the big Three Norns. And EVERYTHING was predestined. drakensisthered

>So, I'm curious if anyone has any good recommendations for books on >Norse Mythology, preferably not dry and textbookish... One I liked was Myths of the Norsemen - From the Eddas and Sagas by H.A. Guerber. He tells the myths in a story-like format along with passages from said sources and also has classic painting illustrations to go along with them. Not bad for $12.95.
