""Hogtown Rhapsody" teaser"
|
A man of wisdom once said, "Never eat at a restaurant on the top of a building. If you must do so, at least make certain it does not revolve." The restaurant at the top of the CN Tower in Toronto is called "360". You can work out for yourself what that means it must do. Nevertheless, the food was good, and the view spectacular. It was another beautiful night, sparkling clear, and though the Tower was no longer the city's tallest building, it was still a respectable height, providing a good vantage point from which to overlook the city and the lake (depending on the orientation of their table at any given moment). Sometimes aircars would pause by the windows so their occupants could wave to restaurant patrons before darting away. Utena found herself nostalgic for the airships of New Avalon. "Do you suppose we're higher than the dueling platform?" Saionji wondered as he looked down at Lake Ontario. Utena looked too, then shrugged. "I dunno. I never could see the ground from up there. There were always clouds in the way." "The guidebook says there are 1,769 stairs to the top of the tower," Miki pointed out. "I wish I'd thought to count the ones leading to the platform." "First time I had to climb up there, it felt like there were about a million," said Utena. "Wait a minute. You mean to tell me you didn't time how long it took you to get to the top?" Miki shook his head. "I was always too preoccupied." "Huh. Tsk, tsk... sloppy." "However," Miki went on, consulting his watch, "it takes this restaurant almost exactly 72 minutes to complete a full revolution." Utena looked across the table at him, an odd look on her face; then she burst out laughing. Miki blinked at her. "What?" he asked. Saionji gave him a dry smile. "Say what you just said again," he told Miki. "It takes this restaurant almost exactly 72 minutes to complete a full revolution," said Miki. "... Oh." "I just had this image... " Utena gasped, "of you two... and Juri... and Touga... having a Council meeting... in a REVOLVING RESTAURANT at the top of the belltower... " "Wouldn't have been much stranger than some of the meetings we -did- have," mused Miki. Saionji drew himself up and intoned impressively, "If a diner cannot lift the lid of his entree, he will die without ever eating dessert." "We are the diner," said Miki. "The world is our entree. If we cannot lift the lid, we will die without ever eating dessert." "Lift the lid of the world!" Saionji declared grandly. "For the Revolution of the Restaurant!" the two former councillors said together, raising their water glasses in a toast. Kaitlyn reached to prop her hysterically giggling roommate up from sliding out of her chair. People at neighboring tables turned to stare. Kate gave them non-hostile mind-your-own-business sorts of looks. "OK," she said to the three Cephireans, "you g-guys are off-f-ficially p-punchy." She glanced at her watch. "N-not even el-leven yet." She shook her head. "S-sad." "Remarkable," observed R. Dorothy dryly.

>That's Just Wrong. > >Amusing as HELL, but Wrong. Seconded. And I feel somehow obligated to point out that reading this with U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" playing in the background only increased how wrong it was. In the "So surreal it works despite making no sense at all" way. Which given what I've seen of RGU thus far makes it somehow appropriate. Was it the live version of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" from the Rattle and Hum movie? That would have been appropriate, since it has a section where Bono stops singing and gives a little speech while the band vamps behind him, to the effect of, "I'm sick and tired of people coming up to me and telling me about the glory of the Revolution, an' the glory of dyin' for the Revolution, an' the glory of killin' for the Revolution. LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-01 AT 11:02 PM (EDT) >>>That's Just Wrong. >>> >>>Amusing as HELL, but Wrong. >> >>Seconded. > >So... I should take it out, then... ? Nah, leave it. There's a reason behind that statement, but damned if I can articulate it right now. Unfortunately not, since the only version I have is from their Best of 1980-1990 CD. <rolling laugh - Jinnai style> ...must....stop...lungs...hurtin' Great piece of fic Gryph , broke the laugh scale on my meter this time . But seriously , I'm just back from a small local con this side of the pond and having watched Utena:the Movie there (or whatever it was called) I'm getting weird flashes , mindfuck scale nearing End of Evangelion. That thing was so weird , I mean ... gha... (almost died laughing during the carwash scene thing though , even if it was kinda against the mood ). Is it just me or is the weirdness level when it comes to anime rising lately (like , say SoulTaker - the first part , that was surreal) But I'm getting sidetracked here , sorry. Anyways , keep up the good work guys , us loyal fans depend on you ^_^. -Griever omigod , tomorrow's the first day of school over here ... AAAAAAA!!!!

As my canadian friend Dex would point out (And I can vouch for this) There's NO BLOODY restaurant at the top of the Canadian National tower. BUT there is one on the CN tower clone in Seattle and ITIIC "360"But the CN Tower does have a wonderful view of the city. There's a great pub on Queen Street (and chance would have it next to a Comic book shop) called the Bishop and The Belcher (Today's Random and slightly unknown fact is that THIS is the Real Life version of the Subreality Cafe that the Subreality people use, JSYK I was there). Sorry but I'm just trying to help you. Fan |

>B&TB? > >-- >-Pasha >Umm, right....I'll be with you in just a sec now... Pasha, B&TB= The Bishop and The Belcher. Here's the DETAILS I got out of Canada 411 (I make a living off those types of websites) The Bishop & The Belcher Phone: (416)591-2352 361 Queen W, Toronto, ON M5V 2A4 And NOW for a Tottaly unrelated EPU backstory. Once apon a time a lady named Kielle started a fanfic group, and this group made up a place called Subreality (insert <- Word between www. and .com) and You'll see her site, In the mythos of Subreality there's a cafe where where all of the fictional charectors who aren't in use visit when they want to get drunk. (Oh Yeah Did I mention that They reside in Subreality when not in use? Yep versions of Ben and Zoner are there) I didn't make this up I'm just passing it on, The Cafe proper has NO real designs or plans or actual material but just IS and it takes many forms because of the way it was made, (Oh Yeah B&TB!) But it's default form, design, dimentions and size IS that of T&TB in Toronto (Most of this stuff was SUPPOSED to come out in "You brought me where, AGAIN?"). One more thing, it's form is defined by the first person who walks through the door, SO If Zoner walks in thinking of The Wedge, The SUbcafe will look like The Wedge and NOT the B&TB. Fan Who's lost now?

>I was there 2 years ago and I'm pretty sure we walked around the place >enough to NOTICE a resaurant. Well, if you did, then you must not have been paying attention, 'cause according to the Tower's website, that restaurant's been there since 1976 (although it used to have a different name, and was closed from 1994 to 1997 for renovations). Curiously, while we were in Toronto, despite the fact that we were at one point right next to it, Truss and I didn't actually go into the CN Tower. I don't recall why not; I guess we just didn't feel like it. (Man. I can't believe that trip was a year ago already.) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Like I said I Don't remember seeing one, then again I don't remember the names of everybody I met there mind you I do remember the important ones (namely those who I interacted with on a daily basis)All I'm left to ponder is DID You guys visit a pub on West Queen St called "The Bishop and The Belcher"? >All I'm left to ponder is DID You guys visit a pub on West Queen St >called "The Bishop and The Belcher"?Nope. I'm not a fan of the whole "let's go to the pub" experience. Not in Massachusetts, not on the road. I don't drink alcoholic beverages but once every couple of months. And even then, it's almost always with dinner. --truss, not a social drinker.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-01 AT 08:29 AM (EDT) Ahhh. Happiness is a four-hour creative session. One or two more of those and I'll have this puppy in the can. (Yeah, I'm tempting fate a little, saying a thing like that... ) I was thinking about posting a second teaser, but I can't give away all the goodies, now can I? --G. -><- Benjamin D.
