"Evil Use of Board"

Nobody uses it, so I'll try using it shamelessly to increase my post count for no apparent reason. And there's a whole bunch of things that EPU can do to stop me, and that's assuming that I don't lose interest in it. Muahahaha. -Eliot "This is what happens with boards that don't have clear functions ;>" Lefebvre -=()=- We're only given a little time in our lives to waste. Make the most of it. >"So, what's the minimum number of GIFs I need to have to be in >GweepCo?" > > "yes. A minimum number of GIFs" > >robfollo(n): Terminal doofus. For the record, the exact exchange (was the other person Derek, you, or someone else?) was: "So, do I need a minimum number of GIFs to be in GweepCo?" "Yes. You need a minimum number of GIFs to be in GweepCo." --truss, village elder.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-25-01 AT 07:11 PM (EDT) >That's always made about as much sense to me as seriously posting >'First!' with no other content. Mongo no understand. When I hung out at the Gargoyles comment room it was something of a tradition for the first ten or so posters to post their sequence... once I was "first", I lost interest in that game. I don't get why people wait for, say, new articles to get posted to AICN just so that they can be "first" at every single one, especially since the forum scripts there function so weird and posts end up out of order anyway. I do occasionally glance at my post count, mostly just so I can go "damn... I've been posting *that* much?" -- Sean -- ... or I glance at Gryphon's and consider setting up a betting pool on when he'll hit 1000... http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! I don't get how most of the people who post in the AICN talkbacks manage to run a computer. That was one of the reasons I just stopped going to that site: scanning the subject lines alone made my blood pressure rise at the sheer LCD quality of it all. It's doing it right now just thinking about the last time I read any of them, and that was last summer. I think the main reason Harry keeps those around is to generate more revenue from the advertisers. After all, he and Moriarty and a couple of others don't have any other jobs, just running AICN. >Thank the maker for Coming Attractions. CA is a great site, but I hit both that and AICN on a daily (often multiple times a day) basis. They overlap quite a bit, but they often have exclusives, and I tend to have the same tastes in film as Harry does (although not uniformly, thankfully), so his reviews are helpful. -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! Oh, did Moriarty quit/get fired from his job at Dave's Laser Video in the beautiful San Fernando Valley? A friend and myself used to go over there and start bogus conversations out loud on purpose just to see what we could get going. And Harry's been here a few times and been given the grand tour by our old PR guy who was milking him for coverage of stuff we were working on. I gave up reading his reviews after the Batman & Robin and Godzilla "Oh, I got sent to the premier and gosh wasn't that a great, fun film." followed a few days later with "I saw it again at my local Googleplex and, gee, did it suck." nonsense. >Oh, did Moriarty quit/get fired from his job at Dave's Laser Video in >the beautiful San Fernando Valley? He quit, from what he said in some interview or another. >on. I gave up reading his reviews after the Batman & Robin and >Godzilla "Oh, I got sent to the premier and gosh wasn't that a >great, fun film." followed a few days later with "I saw it again at >my local Googleplex and, gee, did it suck." nonsense. Feh. I don't blame him. I did that with Godzilla and Independence Day... the first time I saw Godzilla, I was like, "That was a pretty good monster movie, even if it was a lousy Godzilla movie"... then I thought about it, and said, "Wow, that movie just sucked all around." I was influenced by the fact that I really *wanted* to like Godzilla. ID4 I really enjoyed the first time I saw it... the second time I absolutely hated it because I saw just how colossally dumb it was. I don't want to ever see Armageddon again because I enjoyed it the first time, but just thinking about it makes me hate certain parts of it, and if I saw it again, I'd start hating it the same way I hate ID4. Like I said, Harry and I tend to have similar reactions, and I also know how we differ, so I can generally judge how I'll react to a film based on how he reacts. -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! >we can call on Atropos, if it really gets to you :) >But that's not generally recommended... > >somehwat akin to using a patriot missile on a fly... Yes, using an anti-missile system to shoot something down does indeed strike me as a bad idea... ;> It doesn't really get to me. I was just noting the irony. DANTE: Wow, this is sure one ironic thread. RANDALL: Yep, you can't find irony like that just anywhere. -Eliot "Why are we walking like this?" >Yes, using an anti-missile system to shoot something down does indeed >strike me as a bad idea... ;> BTW, the Patriot is not an anti-missile system. It was developed as an anti-aicraft system - the anti-missile capabilities came in software upgrades mainly, to the radar and guidance systems. We're on PAC-3 now - Patriot Advanced Capability 3. They just got a lot of press because their big debut was against Scuds - but they really didn't do as well as the press gushed. They were designed to kill by proximity through blast/fragmentation. Doesn't work too well on a ballistic object. PAC-3 is 'hit to kill'. -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage http://www.megazone.org/ Eyrie Productions FanFic http://www.eyrie-productions.com/ See what I'm selling on eBay |

>BTW, the Patriot is not an anti-missile system. It was developed as >an anti-aicraft system - the anti-missile capabilities came in >software upgrades mainly, to the radar and guidance systems.I knew this in the back of my mind, but I decided to ignore that knowledge for a couple reasons:
- The joke isn't really funny otherwise.
- I wasn't certain, and if I said they were an anti-aircraft system and were wrong I'd look worse than if I said they were an anti-missile system (which they were at least USED for).
- Um. There was a #3?
>They just got a lot of press because their big debut was against Scuds >- but they really didn't do as well as the press gushed. It was the Gulf. They hardly needed to. ;> -Eliot "My memories back then are kind of fuzzy anyways" Lefebvre -=()=- We're only given a little time in our lives to waste. Make the most of it.
