"Songs we -haven't- seen in SotS yet?"

Guess it's time for my first post! Longtime reader (like, since '96-'97 or so), former (bad) fanfic writer (perhaps slipping back into it).

... But anyways. Is there any music folks are surprised they -haven't- seen in SotS yet? Primarily from the Art of Noise? The musical selections are fantastic, and there's a few songs that I'd die to see AoN perform--AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" (the title alone matches pretty much the expressions of most of the cast as they find themselves in various romantic situations), the Masaaki Endou cover of "Yuzurenai Negai" (the man makes the theme song to Galaxy Express 999 sound manly--that's quite an achievement), Helter Skelter... the list goes on.

Well, I can tell you there's a Masaaki Endou song coming up in another story that's being worked on.

I'm sure you can take a guess on it.

To be fair, "Thunderstruck" is difficult to do as a selection performed by a text-based band, inasmuch as the intro vocals are unspellable noises. :)

Yeah, that works. Except for the part about there being no D or N sounds in whatever Brian's singing there. :)

It's the generally accepted pronunciation in pubs.

Yes, well, punching someone in the face is a generally accepted greeting in a lot of pubs, doesn't make it right. :)

Well, you've got to do it in the pub. If you do it outside, the other bloke's kangaroo's going to fuck you up.

Imagining Kate belting out anything in an Brian Johnson voice is pretty terrifying, come to think of it.

In the 25th century, three out of 10 people interviewed on the street in an average urban area of a primarily-human-settled planet believe that the late Decepticon Air Commander Starscream was AC/DC's original lead singer.

True, true. On an unrelated note, I was listening to my iPod as I drove today, and the song "Let Me In" by (I believe) Save Ferris came on, and as I listened to the lyrics I was struck by how much they fit much of Utena and Anthy's situation and relationship.

I thought Let Me In was Michael Stipe's tribute to Kurt Cobain, and the only decent track on their album Monster...

To actually contribute something, Muse's Resistance seems like an album that could conceivably be lifted wholesale and attributed to The Art of Noise.

Perhaps not The Resistance... more likely Origin of Symmetry - more proggy wurbling and guitar-based fantabulous wonderment, no bloody awful French-speaking bit in the middle of a complete dog track followed by a clarinet solo.

I'm not saying that it isn't - I was suggesting that there were better muse albums as a whole that could be directly nicked by the Art of Noise. Single tracks is a different matter entirely. For example, Unnatural Selection would (to me at least, and I've got into trouble over this before) be perfectly suited to an Art of Noise setlist. Somewhere in the middle, possibly. Bloc Party's Hunting For Witches might work as well - I can well see the Daily Mail becoming the voice of Minitrue in Britain. Or possibly the Daily Express.

Indeed! I was trying to ignore The Sun, in the same way that people in restaurants ignore the student party in. You know, the ones bellowing at great length and for the fourth time that night how Bazza ended up in bed with three women (none of whom he had previously met), four men, an inflatable penguin and a spoon lodged somewhere deemed unsuitable for polite conversation.

But you are correct. In the 25th century, no matter what technological advances may come, there will still be sentients content to let Tracy, 20, from Barnstaple do all their thinking for them. With her top off.

I've long held the belief that such things, however distasteful, shouldn't be completely ignored, for one simple reason. It's like the New York Post over here (even has the same owner, come to think of it) - completely useless as a source of information, but such a rich vein of comedy! And, like anything else that has to be mined, it can be difficult and you'll certainly get dirty, but the rewards may be worth it in the end. :)

>But you are correct. In the 25th century, no matter what technological

That last part's very important. It's why the Post fails, comparatively. That, and the fact that they're no longer very creative with the headlines. You don't get gems like HEADLESS BODY IN TOPLESS BAR and MAN SHOT IN BACK, HEAD FOUND IN STREET much any more. Now it's all just about finding stupid abbreviations for famous people's names, apparently.

Anyway, as to The Sun, I just love it when they make the Page 3 captions all weirdly political. I always find myself wondering whether the editors are making it up, or perhaps - and this prospect pleases me in an obscure sort of way, thought I will concede that it seems unlikely - topless models in the UK simply are giving these matters serious consideration. I think if there were such a publication in New Avalon - and there may well be - they actually would be the models' own thoughts, just because I'd like to live in a world where that kind of thing happens, and New Avalon is, in many ways, designed to be that world. :)
