"I Had Forgotten dep't"

   I Had Forgotten:

how freaking long the latter movements of Symphony No. 1 are. Roses in Springtime is nearly 300K! What was I thinking of?

Tell you what I wasn't thinking of, the possibility that I was going to decide to read them out loud someday.

Facepalm,

I don't 'bout anyone else but I for one hope the 'reading aloud' aspect doesn't deter you from such lengthy pieces in the future. I have a hard time getting interested in stories with seriously short chapters (which for me consists of anything less than 30pgs per chapter)... of course I have been told I have an intolerably high reading rate so ...

Well, probably not, I mean, things take as long as they take. It's just, jeez, man. Long. :)

Just out of curiosity how do you do your audiobooks? Do you do them in takes or just one long piece? Either way I imagine it takes a bit of extra effort.

Well, I've been shooting (vaguely) for somewhere in the 35-50-minute range for individual segments. As far as the actual recording process goes, a take basically lasts until I screw up (which can take anywhere from 15 seconds to 20 minutes or more, if I'm really on a roll), or the phone rings, or someone comes to the door, or what have you. Then I'll trim off the messed-up bit and restart from there. Lather, rinse, repeat, until I finish, get tired, run out of water, get bored, or have to go do something else. It's not terribly professional, but I do at least try to make myself re-cut anything I do really poorly. I don't always catch my own verbal typos, any more than I always spot the actual typographical ones, but most of the time my vocalization failures are of the "trip and fall, spiraling off into meaningless jabber" type and thereby hard for me to miss. :)

Or at least the "veer off into muttered self-mockery" type, like this example. :)

On the other hand, I finally got through Springtime (and its separately released extra scene, Fanfare for an Exiled Prince as well). So, you know, go me.
