"It's Raining on Titan..."
|
Inspired by the recent posting on Symphony 1 in audio, I've been rereading (and listening where appropriate) to the Symphony again for like the millionth time. I've reached "Another Christmas Rose" where Castle Eyrie on Titan is introduced. Then I check the Astronomy Picture of the Day and find this: (Article here: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110401.html) Not as nice, perhaps, as the dreaded cranberry bogs, but still a fun coincidence. |

OK, wow, how did I manage to overlook this? That's a beautiful image, though I'm not sure Saturn's rings would actually appear in that orientation from the surface of Titan (maybe at very high latitudes?). Still, the artist himself notes that he had to employ artistic license to make it visible from the surface at all, so that's OK; and I admit it would look a bit weird otherwise. --G. Also, the cranberry bogs must be right over that ridge. -><- Benjamin D.
