"Speaking of the Art, HTT, and Dire Straits..."

[If you've seen K-On!!, you know why this is here. :) --G.]

It's a lovestruck Romeo
Got a serenade
Layin' everybody low
With a love song that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight
Steps out of the shade, says something like
"You and me, babe, how about it?"

Juliet says, "Hey, it's Romeo
You nearly gimme a heart attack"
He's underneath the window, she's singin'
"Hey la, my boyfriend's back
You shouldn't come around here
Singin' up at people like that, but anyway
Whatcha gonna do about it?"

Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet, yeah and you exploded in my heart
And I forget, I forget the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong?
Juliet

We come up on different streets
Yeah, they both were streets of shame
Both dirty, both mean
And the dream was just the same
I dreamed your dream for you
So now your dream is real
How can you look at me
As if I'm just another one of your deals?

When you can fall for chains of silver
You can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers
And the promises they hold
You promised me everything
Yeah, you promised me thick and thin
Now you just say, "Oh, Romeo, yeah
You know I used to have a scene with him"

Juliet, when we made love you used to cry
You said, "I love you like the stars above"
You said, "I'll love you baby 'til I die"
And there's a place for us
You know the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong?
Juliet

I don't do the talk, no
Like they talk it on the TV
I can't do a love song
Like the way it's meant to be
I can't do everything, but I'll do anything for you
And I can't do anything 'cept be in love with you

And all I do is miss you
And the way we used to be
And all I do is keep the beat
And the rock 'n roll company
And all I do is kiss you
Through the bars of a rhyme
Julie, I'd do the stars with you, baby
Anytime

Juliet, yeah when we made love you used to cry
You said, "I love you like the stars above"
You said, "I'll love you baby 'til I die"
And there's a place for us
Yeah, you know the movie song
So when you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong?
Juliet

[on the tenor saxophone - Baron Zoria]

Finds that streetlight
Steps out of the shade, says
"You and me, babe
How about it?"

Yeah, so you and me, babe
How about it?

There's a podcast called Coverville which plays, well, cover tracks. I'm a big fan. Recently they had an episode devoted to Dire Straits with one of the best covers of this I've heard. episode here starts about 15 minutes in, but the whole show is a lot of fun, too.

Hmm, nice.

I don't always listen to melancholy doomed-love-affair songs, but when I do, I prefer "Romeo & Juliet".

Also, upon reflection, that's probably Azusa on the sax, not the Baron. She doesn't play any instrument but guitar canonically, as far as I am aware, but her parents are both in a jazz band, and she's not much bigger than a tenor sax herself, so it's a fun image. :)
