It looks maddeningly familiar - especially the geometry of the grip, stock, and that "buttress" deal that connects them - but I can't place it.

That looks like the Bog-Standard Assault Rifle they use in the manga version of Ghost in the Shell, whose name and number I can't bring out of long-term storage right now.

Hrm. It reminds me of a cut-down version of the one Crichton used on SG-1 last season. I don't recall a manufacturer or model number, though (I keep wanting to say H&K...)

Meprk? Ummm...now, admittedly, I'm not following the series too closely, but...Crichton? Only Crichton I know of in a telly series would be John Crichton in Farscape...not SG-1? Well, and his son, but I doubt he'd carry any form of firearm.

I believe he's referring to Cameron Mitchell, the character Ben Browder (who was Crichton in Farscape) played in the latter seasons of SG-1

The British SA80 assault rifle? The one with the odd bullpup configuration and the magazine behind the grip and trigger?

All bullpup rifles have the magazine behind the grip. That's kind of what "bullpup" means.

In any event, I think not; the SA80 looks even less like the firearm pictured than the Tavor does.

Mmm. Tavor's a nice-looking gun, yeah...

But the one pictured has the clip in front of the trigger. On a barrel that short. Makes it look more like an oversized pistol...

Nitpicking: that is a magazine, not a clip. They're both feeding devices, but clips are not boxes, do not feed with a spring (that I know of, anyway; Gryph may correct me, since he seems to have a broader knowledge of obscure, interesting older guns than I do), and there's probably one or two other significant differences that aren't coming to my foggy brain at the moment.

Anyway, I'm going to agree with the above and say that it looks rather Seburo-ish. And unless there's some funky technology or somesuch that I'm not aware of (or there are some serious drugs involved, and not the good kind), I'd guess that magazine sticking out from under the barrel is a bit like the magazine that hangs off the dust cover of a CZ-75 Automatic -- it's not actually the feeding magazine, but a place to hang your second magazine. Otherwise, that barrel would be ludicrously short, meaning it would be horribly inaccurate even for an automatic weapon. And there's no reason to have something that bulky have a barrel so short.

You're forgetting something: That isn't necessarily a slugthrower. It could be any sort of projected energy weapon, at which point it doesn't matter where you put the 'magazine', except for loading ergonomics.
