EYRIE PRODUCTIONS, UNLIMITED proudly presents: NEON EXODUS EVANGELION BONUS THEATER!! [COMMERCIAL] [INTERIOR DAY. The set of Neon Exodus Evangelion. DJ Croft is sitting in a folding chair, sipping a fruit punch and looking casually towards the camera.] CROFT: Well, by and large, it's rather like working with a family here. A large, neurotic, dysfunctional family, yes, but we all love each other, really... [Cut to a stage set, cameras and lights pointed towards Rei Ayanami and Misato Katsuragi, waiting for the DIRECTOR to call the shot.] AYANAMI: ... so I told her, 'Well, gee, Lina, it's not my fault I'm the favorite female lead on the show,' and then, can you believe this, she had the nerve to say, 'well, that's only because all the Japanese hentai artists want to draw the great and pure Rei Ayanami getting the -pork- poured to her three ways from Sunday in every position imaginable,' and well, that made me so darn mad that I just grabbed her by the shirt and I - DIRECTOR: Places, please, this is a take! And.... ACTION! AYANAMI (voice much softer, face suddenly blank and expressionless): ... yes... DIRECTOR: CUT! PRINT! Okay, move those lights for the next shot! AYANAMI: - I said, 'Look, Inverse, I don't care -what- you think, and anyway, I guess you haven't taken a real close look at the dojinshi section of -your- local newsstand lately, -have- you?' MISATO: ............. [CAPTION: This is Evangelion. (E P U)] [END COMMERCIAL] [TRAILER] [GRAPHIC: The following PREVIEW has been approved for ALL AUDIENCES. The fanfic advertised has been rated EW (EXTREMELY WEIRD).] [BLACK-AND-WHITE FLASHBACK-O-VISION: EXTERIOR, DAY: The familiar BTAS-era Gotham City skyline, as seen from far enough out at sea that most of the city is visible. Some of the buildings are broken, leaning at odd angles. The city is on fire, smoke hanging heavy in the sky.] [CAPTION: GOTHAM CITY] [CAPTION: SOON] [The SECOND ANGEL, a tall, spindly giant white monster, wreathed in flame with one glowing eye, walks into the frame, stalking the streets as if looking for something, leaving destruction in its wake. Abruptly it is challenged by another, similar creature, this one black and angular with tilted bat-ears on its head. (We only see it in silhouette at this point.) They battle, the black one getting the better of the ANGEL, and then the ANGEL's eye glows brightly.] [LONG SHOT: Mushroom cloud obliterating much of downtown Gotham. No SFX.] [DISSOLVE TO BLACK.] VOICEOVER (older man's voice, hoarse and in pain): Never again. Never... again. [NORMAL COLOR: EXTERIOR, NIGHT: A cityscape, gleaming, technological, post-modern, with illuminated spires and many flitting light aircraft and hovercraft - but some darker areas and familiar old towers, too - from the same angle and distance as the opening Gotham shot. What's left of the old city is dwarfed by the gigantic, gleaming arcologies of the future city.] [CAPTION: GOTHAM CITY] [CAPTION: FIFTEEN YEARS LATER] [INTERIOR, BATCAVE: TERRY is standing at the walkway railing, looking up at BATKNIGHT-01. BRUCE WAYNE is at the BATCOMPUTER.] [BATKNIGHT-01 resembles EVA-01, except it's black and bears various BATMAN BEYOND styling cues: pointed flanges on the forearms, pointed claw-like fingers, large red bat logo on chest, bat points on head instead of the horn. It is, of course, the silhouetted entity we saw in the opening sequence.] TERRY: Whoa. Neuromimetic interface, rudimentary combat AI, on-board micro-fusion generator... this thing may be old, but it's still cutting-edge. I bet it's as strong as an Angel, easy. [UNDERWATER, DAY: The THIRD ANGEL approaches the city.] TERRY: Aren't you going to - BRUCE: No. TERRY: But you have to do something! You're BATMAN! BRUCE: I WAS Batman. [TERRY turns and looks up at BATKNIGHT-01.] TERRY (thoughtfully): Something happened to you, didn't it? And it wasn't just that you got old. [EXTERIOR, NIGHT: The THIRD ANGEL is attacking the city.] [INTERIOR, WAYNE MANOR: BRUCE WAYNE sits in a chair, watching the attack on a monitor. Suddenly, a red light flashes next to it.] [INTERIOR, BATCAVE: BRUCE WAYNE stands in front of BATKNIGHT-01's gantry; it's empty.] [EXTERIOR, NIGHT: BATKNIGHT-01 engages the THIRD ANGEL in battle.] [INTERIOR, BATKNIGHT-01: TERRY is at the controls, wearing the BATKNIGHT plugsuit, which strongly resembles the unit itself - black with the red bat on the chest, and a full face mask with points. BRUCE WAYNE's voice can be heard on the commset.] BRUCE: McGinnis. Bring that unit back here NOW. TERRY: Hey, old man - if you're not going to do it, -someone- has to. I read up on you, Wayne. I know why you built this thing. Well, these Angels killed my father, too. [INTERIOR, BATCAVE: BRUCE WAYNE looks at the console for a moment; then his look of dismay turns into a tiny, not-very-nice smile.] [EXTERIOR, NIGHT: Shots of BATKNIGHT-01 in battle with the Third Angel.] [INTERIOR, BATCAVE: TERRY shaking hands with BRUCE. REI appears from the shadows of the cave.] TERRY (reacting): Uh... hello. [REI does not reply.] BRUCE: This is Rei. She looks after me. TERRY: Hi. I'm Terry, Terry McGinnis. Pleased to... meet... [REI leaves. TERRY turns to BRUCE, perplexed.] BRUCE (smiling slightly): Rei doesn't talk much. Don't take it personally. [MONTAGE: BATKNIGHT-01 in battle with various Angels (one resembles a giant penguin, another a grotesque, hulking hanged corpse, and a third a chaotic, lethal, but somehow vaguely and disturbingly feminine giant plant-creature); TERRY training in the Batcave simulator; the civil defense forces under Director Barbara Gordon reacting to BATKNIGHT-01's presence; TERRY in pain as the cockpit of BATKNIGHT-01 is electrified by an Angel attack; more Angel combat. During these combat sequences we get glimpses of BATKNIGHT-01's combat capabilities. It is strong and fast; can generate a protective force field; can produce batlike, razor-edged throwing discs from the housings on its shoulders; has grapple-lines in both arms; and has retractable red wing-like membranes under its arms, which, in conjunction with rockets in its feet, allow it to fly for short distances. It can also become, temporarily, all but invisible, only its edges showing as thin black lines.] [INTERIOR, BATCAVE: TERRY emerges from BATKNIGHT-01's entry plug and pulls off his mask, clearly exhausted.] TERRY: That was the worst one yet. They're getting tougher. BRUCE (at BATCOMPUTER, looking grim): I know. [EXTERIOR, TWILIGHT: BATKNIGHT-01 taking a beating from a very-BATKNIGHT-like Angel.] [INTERIOR, BATKNIGHT-01: Things are starting to break down and fizzle in the cockpit.] TERRY (panicked-sounding): They've been studying us! They know my performance limits - all my moves - I don't know if I can handle this one! Wayne! Can you hear me?! [INTERIOR, BATCAVE: BRUCE works frantically at the controls. REI watches from the shadows for a few moments, then appears to make a decision and slips away. Back to BRUCE; he keeps working, then another alarm light appears on his panel. He looks at it and reacts with dismay.] BRUCE (softly): Oh no... [EXTERIOR, NIGHT: BATKNIGHT-01 is on the ropes; as its enemy is about to make the final strike it is tackled and knocked clear by another BATKNIGHT. As it rises from the tackle to a standing challenge position, we can see that this newcomer is not as sophisticated as BATKNIGHT-01: it's got a smoother outline without as much detail; it has no wings or shoulder-mounted blade housings; and its head, while still bat-eared, lacks BATKNIGHT-01's "face" in favor of a single sensor eye. BATKNIGHT-00 is again mostly black, but its chest bat is yellow, as are its lower arms, lower legs, hands and feet.] [INTERIOR, BATKNIGHT-01: TERRY reacts in shock.] TERRY: What the - ?! [INTERIOR, BATKNIGHT-00: The unit's pilot is, of course, REI; her plugsuit is, like her BATKNIGHT, similar to TERRY's, but its coloration matches BATKNIGHT-00's.] REI: Let's go. TERRY (recovering his composure and smiling): All right! [MONTAGE: Blipvert-style collection of brief instants of combat footage, short reaction shots from pilots and BRUCE WAYNE, etc., highly stylized and reminiscent of the original "Batman Beyond" opening credits sequence, accelerating in pace and building in intensity.] [INTERRUPT MONTAGE TO BLACK.] [TITLE: BRUCE WAYNE] [CONTINUE MONTAGE.] [INTERRUPT MONTAGE TO BLACK.] [TITLE: TERRY McGINNIS] [CONTINUE MONTAGE.] [INTERRUPT MONTAGE TO BLACK.] [TITLE: and REI AYANAMI] [CONTINUE MONTAGE. Finish building to the ending, with BATKNIGHT-01 doing that same "hunch, then extend wings" pose.] [FREEZE. DISSOLVE TO BLACK.] [TITLE: BATMAN: NEON GENESIS] VOICEOVER (BRUCE WAYNE): I WAS Batman. [WIPE TITLE.] [TITLE: COMING SOON] [HOLD; WIPE TO BLACK] [END TRAILER] /* J.P.
