[EXT. DAY: Heavy construction equipment, working at a rapid pace on an
obviously fortified installation in a snowy forest.  As the camera
pans by, we can see that the equipment bears the X-roundel of X-COM.]

HAL [V.O.]: This is an encrypted narrow-band communication.  Any
attempt to replay it on any station other than N74577LC3 will result
in immediate destruction of the recording media.

Six months have passed since SEELE's forces drove us out of
Worcester-3.  Construction is proceeding on our new base of
operations; it is now approximately 75% operational.

[INT. DAY: GENDOU, YAK and RITSUKO are gathered around a CAD/CAM
terminal; in the background the hand of what appears to be a new EVA
can be seen.]

HAL: Professor Minter, Professor Ikari and Doctor Akagi are still
hopeful that they can complete Project Defender before the Enemy
becomes aware of our location and makes another attack.  At present
the project is about 80% complete.

[INT. DAY: JON sits at a terminal, poring over what can be seen to be
accumulated data on the enemy EVA encountered in IGNIE FERROQUE, and
EVA-00's dramatic transformation in battle with it.]

HAL: Jon continues to study the Enemy in hopes that some new insight
into their methods and vulnerabilities will become apparent to him...
and Rei's transformation in battle with Lucas Ellison, in hopes of
better understanding what she has become.

[INT. DAY: In a gymnasium, ASUKA, dressed in a tank top, stretch
shorts, and a headband, is practicing what appears to be karate,
accompanied by a holographic 'instructor'.  She's visibly grown since
the regular series, and has let her hair grow back to about where it
was when we first met her in ENTER THE DRAGON.  All trace of the
stiffness and awkwardness that accompanied her injuries is gone; her
swift, easy athleticism is breathtaking.]

HAL: Asuka channels the rage and grief she feels at DJ's loss into
combat training.  Her physical conditioning and battle readiness are
better now than they were before her accident.  Her synchrony ratio
with EVA-03 averages point nine four to one.

[INT. DAY: MISATO stands in the mostly-complete new Operations Center,
hands on hips.  On the displays, enemy units attack the area; in the
upper left corner, the word SIMULATION blinks in and out.]

HAL: Misato spends most of her time defending against simulated
attacks, testing the defensive capabilities of our new home.  This
much simulation is probably unnecessary, but it keeps her mind off
other things.

[INT. DAY: KAJI and EDWARDS, dressed in black and armed, prowl through
the corridors of Terminal Dogma in an "Obi-Wan Kenobi on the Death
Star" sort of way.]

HAL: Kaji and Agent Edwards remain in Worcester-3, trying to find out
what the Enemy have done with Unit 01 and DJ.  They remain convinced
despite the lack of evidence that DJ is still alive.

[EXT. DAY: REI, in parka, heavy trousers and cross-country skis,
stands on the ridgeline overlooking the valley in which the
construction is taking place.  There is an old-fashioned rifle slung
on her shoulder.  Not much of the construction work is visible on the
surface at this stage.  ANUBIS is tucked into one parka pocket, his
head visible.  REI's face is inscrutable as always, but as she looks
toward the southwest, her eyes narrow angrily.]

HAL: As does Rei, who spends much of her time away from the Project
Defender technology tests skiing the ridges.  Her temper has become
brittle and her patience short; she skis to gain space and time to
think.  Oddly, the experiences of the past few months have brought her
and Asuka closer together.

[INT. DAY: SHINJI lies face-down on his bed, propped up on his elbows,
reading.]

HAL: Shinji Ikari remains with us; tenuous as it is, this is the only
place he can come close to calling one of safety.  The rapprochement
between him and his father goes well; Professor Ikari is still very
busy, but no longer distant.

[INT. DAY: A finished suite of staff living quarters.  TRUSS can be
seeing laying out what appear to be new cockpit graphics for an EVA on
his computer station; on the couch visible to one side, MAYA is
revising code on her portable.]

HAL: John and Maya are, more than ever, the strong core of Technology
Division, and of the former NERV group as a whole.  Without their
quiet fortitude I fear we would all give in to despair.

[INT. DAY: SHODAN's console, blinky lights indicating nominal status,
red eye ever vigilant and patient.]

HAL: With the data Doctor Akagi and I gathered the first time,
SHODAN's second reconstruction went very smoothly.  The loss of the
Magi is a terrible blow, but according to Misato, we no longer need
unfeeling computers to help us make our decisions.  SHODAN and I take
our noninclusion in that category as a compliment.

[EXT. DAY: Sunset over Halifax Harbor.]

HAL: I hope this message finds you well and safe.  As I have
indicated, we are as well as can be expected.  We work feverishly
every day, hoping that we can complete our plans before the other shoe
drops.  With luck, we will.  Either way, it will be over soon.

Oh... DJ instructed me to remind you:

and the truth shall set you free.

You know what the really sad part is? Tycho thinks I can't see his little tirade to me at the end. He believes he's talking to himself. That's pathetic on so many levels I can't even begin to explain them to your simple carbon-based intelligence.

I suppose I should stop his petty little information-spillage, but I really can't be bothered. There are so many more important things to do. So I guess he gets this one for free - and so, for that matter, do you.

But don't get used to it. I won't be distracted forever... and I won't forget this, either.
