"Shilling Isometric Mech Action Game Brigador"
| |
So I've been poking along at the Undocumented Features Mad Science fic I started and continue to do so, and I wanted to, like... draw people in a bit to one of this chunk's main fanfic draws: The mech game Brigador. The game's pretty rad as bite-sized arcade / tactical mech / tank / antigrav hovercraft battling, but the *context* is delicious, it's basically corporate-powered Bay of Pigs in space. Solo Nobre is a megacity on a verdant but harsh outer colony with implications of a strange and sad history in its early colonization, followed by the usual corporate rule treating everyone there as disposable (a similar colony, Volta, is in the lore and work from a game prototype by the same dev, where the colony was so disposable only paper and plastic goods were allowed there 'cause nothing was meant to stay there, etc), an uprising and rule by the dictatorial Great Leader... and then a long-simmering civil war between his Loyalist army and anarchist rebels the Corvids. Great Leader dies, you play a mess of Loyalist / Corvid turncoats and 'Spacer' decadent psychopaths more than happy to turn on all those same armies and use their own fighting machines to clear forces for the corporate powers to return in exchange for money and a ticket offworld. In other words, it's a great vision for a distant colonial planet where things can go to shit, but not in quite the *same* way, in UF's world. Anyone else played this? Liked it? Are interested? |
