"roads not taken (a musing)"
|
The other day, while I was working on the next Gallian Gothic, I got to thinking about Flandre (the episode's main character) and her situation in life. Along the way, I had the thought of an alternate path I might have taken with her character arc back in Book 1. It could have been interesting to explore a scenario where there wasn't really anything wrong with her. In that variation, she wouldn't be locked in the basement, she'd have been down there by choice, simply because she was just flat-out done with the world after 10ème Floréal. She wouldn't have regarded Remilia as her enemy so much as a reminder of happier times that was too painful to interact with. G's job would have been similar--to get her to come out, literally and figuratively, from her self-imposed exile--but probably would have involved less horsie and more talk therapy. Obviously I'm not going to go back and rework the whole series now, but it's an interesting thought exercise. --G. -><- Benjamin D. > >Obviously I'm not going to go back and rework the whole series now, >but it's an interesting thought exercise. >In a universe that I can't imagine you writing, Flandre did have something wrong with her, broke out in the chaos, and proceeded to wreak havoc upon their attackers - after which the added trauma of realizing she'd literally torn people limb from limb pushed her to lock herself away from the world. Not that it isn't a story somebody could write, just that it isn't your sort of story. Peter Eng -- Insert humorous comment here. |
