Now, either:

A) she was lying about that just to ward off Hal;
B) later writers either didn't know about that one throwaway panel in an ancient Silver Age issue or just chose to ignore it, or
C) John Stewart is a more interesting dude than we initially took him for, since he married her.

Given that the narration boxes and other characters universally use "her" when they reference her in later issues, I'm going to go with "it had to be either A or B," but...
