Not that I'm really complaining, mind you; I just finished re(re)(re)-reading the latest one, and decided that I'd play the song while reading. It works, and works wonderfully, but either a) I read way too damn fast, or b) the song is a wee bit long. :)

If I had to guess, I'd have to say that it's a matter of time compression as opposed to being able to read the scene out to the length of the song. We know that John Travolta and Uma Thurman danced to the entire length of 'You Never Can Tell' in Pulp Fiction, but we were only subjected to about 30 seconds of it. :) Or how 'It's A Mistake' (most certainly not the Men at Work song) is only playing on Sarah's roommates headphones peripherally for the few moments before she's killed in The Terminator, yet it still landed it's own slot on the soundtrack.

Of course, I'm not Gryphon, but if I had to guess, that'd be the answer.

Try the version from Swing Kids. It's not genuine, but it also doesn't have the half-hour solos in the Stompin' at the Savoy version.

Or apply the other poster's comments about time compression for cinematic purposes.
