"Circular reference dependency detected."

So, there's something I noticed during a recent(-ish) reread of the story so far.

For the most part GG can stand on it's own from the main OWaW (and vice versa). GG benefits from some context, and then there's certain references that only make sense once you read the other, but the main story just sort of goes along.

Except for one thing. At the end of OWaW 22, Gryphon disappears into the other series, next episode we see him back at Saint-Ulrich, and... uh, what happened to the whole Mogami project again? A major subplot seems to have been resolved offscreen.

Of course it makes perfect sense if you read everything in production order, but that's awkward for latecomers.

I have not the faintest idea what could be done with this.

One of the thornier issues that arose when the time came to start integrating Gothic back into the main storyline was figuring out which developments belonged under which heading, and that's a significant example. To be fair, I didn't completely gloss over it; G does mention to Ursula early in OWaW 23 that the IFN fired him from the project, after she expresses surprise that he's back so soon.

In comic books, back in the day, the editors used to explain references to stuff that happened in other series with a note in the corner of the panel, pointing the reader at whatever other comic it happened in. I always thought those were kind of annoying, because they break the fourth wall, but they are useful--if a bit harder to do in a straight text medium. Still, maybe I should consider something like it in this instance...

After thinking about this too little, I imagine the "I was fired" line having a hyperlink to the relevant story.

Say, that's not a bad idea.
