(I wasn't sure whether to stick this here, or in UF Source Material, or in the thread for Vocaloid Variations.)It occurs to me that a potentially useful/interesting way to start including VTubers and such in UF is to make COVER corp. part of the Concert Vocaloid Consortium, involved in the import and adaptation-for-Earth of the Salusian holographic telepresence rigs. The same technological advantage that led to an early Vocaloid Version 6 could easily lead to COVER being founded a few years earlier.
It's my understanding that hiring Tokino Sora was originally (in part) a publicity stunt/tech demo for COVER's original primary business, VR/AR and real-time motion-capture software. That original business of providing the tools of a VTuber is why I thought they'd be a decent fit for the CVC.
Alternatively, maybe COVER gets founded at the same time as OTL, but skips directly to "VTuber Idol Agency", approaching Hatsune Heavy Industries for the technology to do so. Heck, HHI would probably be happy to provide tech to any agency or indie.
Either way (but especially the second), there's now an excuse to have VTubers as VTubers, rather than whatever their lore says they are. (Sometimes the lore is at odds with their demonstrated personality, as with Sakamata Chloe. Sometimes it's basically absent, as with Laimu. "Conveniently, in real life I also do these things, so this has been a very easy character for me to play.")
... Of course, after writing all that up, it occurs to me that not leaning into the lore might veer a little too close to RPF for Eyrie's tastes.
