"a random comics memory"
| |
I don't know why I just thought of this, but, way way back in the day, I read an issue of Green Lantern in which Hal teams up with Sinestro's replacement as the GL of Korugar's sector, Katma Tui, to defeat him. At the end, Hal, being Hal, makes some smooth remark or another to Katma and kisses her flirtily on the cheek. "Although I resemble your Earth women," Katma replies matter-of-factly, "I am not female as they are, and so your kiss has no meaning to me." Now, either: A) she was lying about that just to ward off Hal; B) later writers either didn't know about that one throwaway panel in an ancient Silver Age issue or just chose to ignore it, or C) John Stewart is a more interesting dude than we initially took him for, since he married her. Given that the narration boxes and other characters universally use "her" when they reference her in later issues, I'm going to go with "it had to be either A or B," but... --G. ... And four cycles later, in the recreation complex, Katma Tui realized that for the first time in many years' service, she had heard a Guardian make a joke. She felt vaguely uneasy for the rest of that day. -><- Benjamin D. After thinking about that for a moment, I'd like to offer up option D: "Your charms may work on Earth women, but I can see right through you, smooth talker." Peter Eng -- Insert humorous comment here. |
