"James Horner, 1953-2015"

I'm seeing reports that James Horner, composer of the scores for such familiar films as Star Treks II and III, Titanic, and The Rocketeer has been killed in a plane crash.

Say what you will about the schmaltzfest that was Titanic, "Southampton" is a goddam epic piece of music, and I listened to the Star Trek II soundtrack so many times as a kid that I didn't even really need to watch the movie to picture most of it in my head - I knew what would be happening on screen at every point in the music.

One of my top five favorites, all the way back to Battle Beyond the Stars.
Damnit.
