"Bernard Hill (1944–2024)"

English actor Bernard Hill, probably best known in this crowd for playing King Théoden of Rohan in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films, has died at 79. (I had forgotten that he also played Captain Smith in James Cameron's Titanic. "Take her to sea, Mr. Murdoch.")

He had a lot of great speeches in the LotR films, but to my way of thinking, they somewhat overshadow his performance in Théoden's earliest appearances, particularly the scene in which he's released from Saruman's curse, which is amazing.
