"MajGen William Anders, Apollo Astronaut. 1933 - 2024"

William Anders passed away at the age of 90 in a small plane accident near the San Juan Islands between British Columbia and Washington state.

An Apollo 8 astronaut, he is probably most famous for taking the Earthrise photograph during that mission. When I was in Jr High, our science teacher had a poster of that photograph, with the quote "One day, I hope to look up through a quarter million miles of nothing and say "Gee, there's a beautiful earth out tonight", and that particular bit of inspiration has lived rent free in my head for over 30 years now.
