They're not completely dissimilar. DJ likes classical music, too. (Mind you, his definition of "classical" sometimes stretches to include do-wop groups and the Who, but still.)

As for why he can cook, that'd probably be because his mother can't (past certain simple field foods) and he eventually got very bored with canned beany-weenies heated and served in the original can over a campfire. :)
