"Pointless anime question"
|
Is there a genre that hasn't been attempted in anime? Well, I should be fair - is there an _international_ genre that hasn't been attempted in anime? (AFAIK, "hard-boiled detective" has never been produced outside the US, nor has the romance novel. Translations, yes. Independent productions, not to my knowledge.) Peter Eng

I'm pretty sure I've heard of Italian and French romance novels - but perhaps the concept is different. (Don't read 'em, don't know.) As far as the hardboiled detective - I presume you mean the film noir Raymond Chandler style. Hmm, I can't think of one offhand, but something is buzzing in the back of my brain about there being a character like that in some anime, but I can't pull it up. -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage http://www.megazone.org/ Eyrie Productions FanFic http://www.eyrie-productions.com/ |

Golgo 13: The Professional is fairly noirish, except that the main character is an assassin rather than a private detective. Closest I can think of off the top of my head. Romance? Kimagure Orange Road is one of my favorite romantic works, but if you're talking about bodice-rippers, I know for a fact that British ones exist (the romance genre is by far the most popular in the States). Don't know one way or the other about elsewhere, but I'd be surprised if they didn't. -- Sean -- "Imagination is more important than knowledge." -- Albert Einstein "It's not easy being green." -- Kermit the Frog |
