"NXE: TMP"
|
Ok, I finally finished reading it. (Well it was midnight over here when "Apotheosis Now" came online and I wanted to read it in one session. ^^") This Story is absolutly fantastic!Rachael appearing as an angel That was beautiful. Really. I hope that she can read this story where ever she is now. These lenses on his shoulders are his heavy artillery - they're the emitters for a tandem anti-matter beam projector." [...] "What's that thing behind its head?" asked Jon Ellison. "Oh, that's Petya. A nuclear missile," Truss replied blandly.
[Londo Molari]Madness! Total and complete madness![/Londo Molari] ^_^; Asuka gave a short, humorless laugh. "I'm -already- a cyborg, Doctor, or don't you remember? The bones in my right leg, my right arm, most of my left arm, half of my ribs, the orbit of my right eye and the right side of my jaw are all made of an alloy whose name I can't even pronounce. My right hip and shoulder joints are military-grade. There's a neurocybernetic shunt bridging a break in my right optic nerve, and the muscles around that eye are myomer actuators. All the working parts of my right ear are bioelectronic. My pancreas, my spleen, and ten feet of my small intestine were grown in a tank. You supervised all that. Had you forgotten?"
Ouch! >_< Asuka seems awfuly calm about the whole affair. Had I been in her place I would have ripped Ritsukos head off, literally, for trying to keep that secret from me. "Nein!" Asuka whispered. "Ja!" Lucifer replied sarcastically. "I can't wait to see how you get yourself out of -this-.
Well. The "Ja" isn't _really_ wrong, but should you write a simmilar scene in the future you might want to use "doch". "My name's Bacon," the voice replied. "Sergeant, X-COM, DN38416, assigned to protect you. "You have been targetet for termination!" ^_^;
Derek Bacon stared at the rostrum for a moment, then shook his head and wandered out of the room, muttering to himself. Maybe Ken Alda would be up for a game of MechWarrior 7.
Now which MechWarrior 7 would that be? MechWarrior 7: Redemption MechWarrior 7: Red Dragon Legion or MechWarrior 7: Mercenaries? :) As the pain faded away and the darkness began to close in, Natlateth realized that she had no more tricks; everything was finished. There would be no return to Hell, not with her infernal Heart destroyed by the Spear of Destiny. There would be no escape to another body, for there were no more to use. There would be nothing. She, a Princess of Hell, was at last brought low by this pathetic, worthless, weak human being.
Well... I would never have thought that that I'd ever say this, but: Hooray for Gendou! said DJ in a comic-opera parody of an aristocrat's tones. "See here, are you attempting to imply that Miss Ayanami is a creature of something less than perfect rectitude and virtue? Because if you are, I'm afraid that as an English gentleman I shall be forced to require satisfaction of you." Laurence stared in open disbelief at the young Englishman. No one had -ever- said such a thing to him before, and -certainly- not a mortal. Behind him, he could hear a couple of people stifling laughs, and Michael not even bothering.
"(Dude!)" San whispered to Shinji. "(God said I don't displease Him!)" "(I heard!)" Shinji replied. "(That's great!)" "(That's TERRIBLE!)" San hissed plaintively. "(I'll have to sin harder. You'll help me, right? We could start with some impure thoughts or something and work our way up.)"
These to bits really had me on the floor. Thanks! ^_^ "Sehr gut, danke! Und dir? Freut mich zu hören. Hör zu, DJ und ich sind nach allem, was wir diese Woche durchgemacht haben, ziemlich müde und wir haben im Moment einfach nicht die Kraft, für den Flug nach England. Könntest du vielleicht hierher kommen? Es sei denn, du möchtest warten, bis wir mit dem Schiff rüber kommen können." There was a pause; Asuka nodded, her smile widening, and then said, "Alles klar. Wir werden dich dann für Donnerstagabend erwarten. Du hast Glück - das ist Tacoabend! Alles klar. Sicher. Vielen Dank! Bis Donnerstag dann. Tschüss." [...] Linguistics Department Benjamin Brill
Ok, where did I put that list? Ah, there it is Things I absolutely have to do in my life. If you simply can't wait for the DVD release, here is, basically, what she's saying: "I'm great, thanks. And you? That's good to hear. Listen, DJ and I are wiped out after all that's happened this week, we just don't have the energy for a flight to England. Maybe you'd consider coming here? Or you could wait until we can get a ship over. ... OK. We'll see you Thursday night then. You're in luck - that's Taco Night! OK. Sure. Thanks a lot! See you Thursday. Bye!" It's worth pointing out that she's speaking in an extremely casual, familiar manner, which the retranslation is aimed at demonstrating by word choice instead of structure. (German has different forms of address for formality and informality; in English we have to rely on tone.) She's basically addressing the King, whom she has never met, like an old pal - probably because, well, when you've just had your nose gently pulled by God, what's the King of England? :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. I suppose one of the resident Germans could elaborate further, but basically, using "du" (the familiar second person address) is very informal -- close friends, family-level. Let me put it this way: it's like she's calling him "Stevie" instead of "Your Majesty." To illustrate this point, my German prof in college told me about an etiquette column she read once, where this woman wrote in to ask about du and Sie (formal). The young woman had been living with her boyfriend for some time, and they were now expecting their first child. What the young woman wanted to know was if it was appropriate for them to start using "du" instead of "Sie" now. -- Sean -- Rabid Crack Weasel #42 "All tribal myths are true, for a given value of 'true'." -- Terry Pratchett Drelau Productions The Broken Link

Given what we've seen of His Majesty, I'd half expect him to finish the conversation by hanging up the phone, giving it an odd look, then collapsing in helpless laughter. But that's just my take on it. Blessed be. -n |

*hmm, this looks like a good place...) I guess this is a good place to put in my 2 cents. I saw Matrix Reloaded between reading NXE:TMP. My livejournal (http://www.livejournal.com/~satyap/ )post says: MR almost got pre-empted by the NXE:TMP release on Fri May 16th. http://www.eyrie-productions.com/NXE/ I'd say the effects in NXE:TMP were better, being entirely imaginary. There was one scene where... well, no spoilers in this: the EVAs do a Neo/Smith-style everybody gang up on the good guy and the good guy flings them up and away scene. Also, NXE:TMP had a better storyline and a much better ending. -- Satya. |
