OVERVIEW

The 7th Autobot Armored Cavalry is a Cybertronian armed forces unit. Recently organized under the leadership of Hot Rod, the 7th Cav is composed primarily of young, newly recruited Autobots who showed particular promise during their initial training. The unit is designated as an operational training cadre, meaning that while it primarily focuses on advanced training for its members, it also may be assigned to real missions. It is commonly accepted, though not explicitly stated in the unit charter, that it's as much a training/testing ground for its commander as it is for its members.

Under the leadership of Hot Rod and his top sergeant, Blitzwing, the 7th Cav is making good progress, changing steadily from a motley assortment of clueless newbies to a well-honed squad. Here are profiles of a few of the unit's notable members.

OFFROAD
Function: Gunner

"If trouble doesn't find me, I'm happy to go lookin'."

Bio: Brash, courageous, and - let's be honest - kind of obnoxious, Offroad is a former turboball star who joined the Autobot forces out of a desire to find bigger challenges and, if possible, bigger fame. His size, toughness, and natural talent for fighting made him an excellent candidate for the Autobot special forces, but his ego and his contempt for those he perceived as weaker than himself kept getting in the way of him doing the best job he could. A few lessons at the hands of more mature Transformers have tempered this attitude, teaching him to judge his comrades by their contributions rather than early impressions, but he's still impatient with slackers and those whose capabilities don't meet his standards. Hopefully, as he continues to mature under the tutelage of Hot Rod and Blitzwing, these disagreeable traits will erode further.

Weapons/Abilities: Offroad is an unusually large, powerful, durable Transformer. Though his strength doesn't quite live up to the impression his bulk gives, he makes up for that by being more agile than he looks, giving him well-rounded performance in robot mode. His sport utility vehicle mode is not very fast, but can traverse almost any terrain and is highly resistant to road damage. Offroad is armed with a missile launcher and a rapid-fire blaster cannon, both available in either mode.

Weaknesses: Offroad's attitude and ego can hinder the performance of his duties and make teammates less likely to back him up in combat, plus his impulsiveness often leads him to take precipitous actions he would have been better off avoiding. A quirk of his design makes his robot head obvious in vehicle mode, severely limiting the usefulness of that mode as a disguise.

Offroad is a new bio for the Ironhide toy from the Transformers: Energon line.

HEAD-ON
Function: Road Warrior

"Apply directly to the Decepticons!"

Bio: Head-On loves his job. He likes nothing better than taking on a Decepticon ground warrior - or multiple Decepticon ground warriors - for dominance of the highway. He can't fly, turn invisible, project fancy holograms, or do any other nifty, special stunts, but he doesn't give a damn. What he does is beat down Decepticons, by any means necessary - with weapons, hand-to-hand, by running them off the road, whatever. He especially enjoys the ancient sport of autodueling, one-on-one car battles fought for control of particular stretches of road. Interpersonally, he's just as direct and straightforward as he is in battle, never skirting an issue or topic he can just plunge right into. This habit can be annoying, but his teammates appreciate his unfailing candor and non-judgmental nature.

Weapons/Abilities: Though he lacks specialized equipment and technical trickery, Head-On has one unusual trait: his abnormal durability. Head-On is incredibly tough for an Autobot of his size, not only in terms of strict resistance to damage, but in his ability to keep functioning despite the damage he's suffered. He'll keep fighting with limbs blown off, drive on bare rims, whatever it takes to keep bringing the fight to the bad guys. Some of his comrades think he simply doesn't feel pain. His weapon - a combination grenade launcher and blaster rifle - is as straightforward as the rest of him, and his preferred method of attack is to simply ram the enemy.

Weaknesses: Head-On's apparent indifference to harm and willingness to tackle any enemy can make him bite off more than even he can chew. His social bluntness can lead to awkwardness and hurt feelings, damaging unit cohesion.

Head-On is not intended to represent any existing toy. His vehicle mode is an unmarked police cruiser from the early '80s, with oversized push bars on the front.

Bio: Before he joined the Autobot forces, the Minicon known as Bobcat was renowned all over Cybertron as one of the top 'bots in the construction industry. Small but scrappy, he possesses a wide range of industrial skills and abilities, as well as wide-ranging experience in managing projects ranging from bridges to defense installations to power plants. As a member of the Autobot 7th Cav, he applies his experience and talents to everything from fortifications to public works projects. Bobcat considers himself something of an ambassador to the Minicon community, using his projects to help win "sparks and minds", as the special-forces phrase goes, for the Autobots among the civilian Minicon population. Though he's been an Autobot for a relatively short time, he's treated with respect and deference by his 7th Cav peers, thanks both to his renown as an engineer and his easygoing, unceremonious personality.

Weapons/Abilities: Bobcat is tough even by the resilient standards of his Minicon brethren, who are known for their powers of survival. Seemingly tireless, he can work as long as the job he's on requires it. Able to transform into a compact, versatile piece of equipment called a skid steer loader, Bobcat possesses a huge array of different modular attachments enabling him to tackle almost any conceivable construction or demolition task. He's an excavator, a forklift, a mole drill, a small crane, a concrete mixer, a street cleaner, a snow plow, a bulldozer, and dozens of other machines all in one.

Weaknesses: Swapping out his various attachments takes time, and Bobcat has so many of them he sometimes forgets exactly which ones he has - plus, he can't carry them all with him. He's only lightly armed, and his Minicon stature means that he takes longer to accomplish some tasks than a full-sized Transformer simply because he covers less ground.
