3. "RE: Kyoto Animation arson, 33 dead"

Turns out that, with a dedicated and skilled data recovery expert, you can get a -surprising- amount of data out of even badly burned computers. It'll cost a -mint- to get it done right, but with very careful handling, it can be done - magnetic drives, as it turns out, can withstand a -surprising- amount of nonsense before they become completely unsalvageable. Mad props to the folks who designed that server room tho. Very happy to see proper precautions in place. -- In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure-dome decree, Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea |

6. "UPDATE: charges have been filed"

The self-confessed KyoAni arsonist has been charged, although, oddly, the article does not say with what. It's been 10 months since the fire and the man confessed almost immediately afterward, so we're not seeing an abundance of haste on the part of the Japanese authorities here, but it isn't just that the wheels of justice grind exceeding slow. It's also that he's been hospitalized the entire time, because, in the grand tradition of incompetent arsonists everywhere, he set himself on fire as well. I'm not expecting there to be a really complicated judicial process from here on out, but stranger things have happened. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
