"Hmm..."

Speaking of Trailing Edge's first client, I was just digging through the old junk directory in the back of my Warrior's Legacy working dir - sort of the text equivalent of the back of the sketchbook where all the stuff that didn't quite work out ends up - and came across the 27,792 bytes of Battle 00: Road Trip from Hell. It's set three years before Battle 01 and was intended to cover the very first Trailing Edge adventure, starting with Our Heroes still studying at WPI and ending with their decision to bag the college thing and become full-time adventurers. The trouble is, I wrote it... oh... five, six years ago; it sprang from my head fully formed in the shape it is now in, and since then I've been able to do anything whatsoever with it. It's a nice hook for an adventure; the only problem was, I was never able to come up with the adventure. Still, as I look it over, it's got some nice character bits and it seems a shame to waste them. I'm actually rather proud of the opening. So I'm playing around with the idea of dumping it here in all its unfinished glory, as a sort of forum exclusive bonus thingy. The question is - does anybody actually want to read a whacking great forum post whose contents are basically a story that failed? With the understanding that A, it's old and a bit clunky style-wise and B, although I'll finish it if by some miracle a notion for doing so comes to me, I don't expect that one will? --G. -><- Benjamin D. Compromise. You toss us the opening - and then work with Zoner to clean the rest up? The way you're talking it sounds fabu, but it doesn't have an ending, which will cause many people to try to end it for you...which may or may not be good. Besides, we love reading your stuff, esp. when it's as fun as WL. t. Trigger Argee trigger_argee@hotmail.com Manon, Maccadon, Orado, etc. Denton, never leave home without it. I know I will. n.n Tho Trigger's definitely got a point there. --Wren I am not a number! I am a FREE WEASEL! --Wren I am not a number! I am a FREE WEASEL! |

>Compromise. You toss us the opening - and then work with Zoner to >clean the rest up? No, since my idea basically involves using the existing material as flashback fodder in Battle 06 or 07. That's something we've done many times over the years when we have parts of a tale but either don't feel like completing it, just run out of steam, or decide it wasn't very good but has good bits. We'll have to explain to Sakura how we got started at somepoint, so we'll probably end up telling her the story of our first 'mission'. And there are other bits to the plot of the story that seemed like a good idea 6-7 years ago, but don't seem quite a clever any more. ;-) I don't think Battle 00 will live on as a release, but the good bits will find a home. Like Gryph said, the problem is mainly we created a great hook for an adventure, the framing story, even some of the consequences - but never came up with the adventure itself. -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage - Eyrie Productions FanFic - EPU Store 1 - EPU Store 2 Anime Expo New York Programming Divison Head, Anime Expo IT Staff, Anime Boston Panel Programming Head eBay listings - updated 01/13/02 |

I'm quite fond of the WL universe. it's much more compact and standalone than the whopping great mass that is UF. >--G. >-><- >Benjamin D.
