Marathon
Allegiance:
Autobot
Function: Urban Warrior

"You talkin' to me?"

PROFILE: Marathon comes from the toughest, meanest, loudest district of Cybertron, the Sonic Canyons. The maze of streets, passages, back alleys, and semi-secret bypass routes that runs from one end of the Canyon to the other comprise some of the most dangerous, and most bewildering, terrain on the planet, and the Canyons' natives tend to be sturdy, self-sufficient, and hardheaded, willing to stand up for themselves and those they consider their crews at the slightest provocation. They also speak loudly and with a characteristic accent born of striving to be heard over the Canyons' constant cacophony. Other famous products of the Sonic Canyons include the Autobot police officer Siren and the Decepticon-aligned Mini-Con brothers Rumble and Frenzy.

Fig. A Marathon.

Marathon was one of the Autobots who accompanied Optimus Prime on the mission that ended with four million years of stasis lock on Earth. When he was revived, he gravitated immediately toward the planet's densest and grimiest urban centers, searching for an environment that most closely matched the place where he felt most comfortable - his home in the Canyons. He found it in New York City, a place which he adopted as his personal stamping grounds for the next several decades. Living (and working as an active taxicab) in the city for so many years left Marathon with an even finer grasp of the intricacies of urban infiltration and warfare, a great regard for the tenacity and grit of the people of Earth, and an even more direct, no-nonsense attitude than he'd had before.

ABILITIES: A product of Cybertron's meanest streets, Marathon is always up for a scrap and he's not above using any dirty trick or street-fighting tactic to come out on top. He's a master of urban maneuver, concealment, striking from ambush, and using the environment to its best advantage, but he's no ninja - when the fists and the photons start flying, he's right in the front row slinging both with gay abandon. With his reinforced, heavy-duty chassis and sturdy, easily repaired body panels, he can handle the cut-and-thrust of urban warfare (or hacking) for days on end without flagging.

Fig. B Marathon in car mode.

In robot mode, Marathon is armed with an antique scatter blaster of a type very common at the height of the First Cybertronian War, as well as a twin concussion rocket array. The rockets are also available in automobile mode. His car form is also fitted with a stasis cage module that can immobilize any passengers.

WEAKNESSES: Marathon's tough-guy persona is entirely genuine, which means he doesn't readily back down from situations even if he knows they're likely to end up too tough for him to handle. Although his fuel capacity is huge, he's not particularly economical with it, which can make him expensive to maintain in extended field operations.

I wondered if I'd be seeing a colossal asteroid-ship when I opened this... I like the cab better.

>"You talkin' to me?"

Hell yes.

>In robot mode, Marathon is armed with an antique scatter blaster of a
>type very common at the height of the First Cybertronian War, as well
>as a twin concussion rocket array.

A New York cab with a shottie. Very nice. I'm hoping this "antique" is a pump-action.

That weakness could also be turned to an advantage. Everybody bluffs these days, so a tough talkin' resident of the boroughs could be expected to...Right up until he butt-strokes you with the scatter-blaster.

This immediately brought to mind that image from awhile back of Anakin Skywalker as one of the drivers from Crazy Taxi. And another human/Transformer team up is born!

That thing you burned up isn't important to me. It's the fluid catalytic cracking unit. It made shoes for orphans. Nice job breaking it, hero.

Hell yeah! Friggin' awesome, Gryphon... loving the image of this boy pounding some poor Decepticon's face in with a concealed lamp post. Maybe half a lamp post in a really big sock.

P.S.: Any UF Transformers look like a Morgan Aero 8? Given the prevalence of British culture in the galactic scene, it seems... likely.

Everybody thought his cabbie was crazy because he swore up and down his cab could talk. Of course, everybody at the Sunshine Cab Company thought Reverend Jim was crazy long before that....

So, was the edit cause Phil finally scored the robot more commission, or because you found the shot of the cherry cab to add to the page?

The photo of the taxicab has always been there; the robot-mode illustration is new.
